pushrod help

I have a 66 Mustang coupe that I recently upgraded to a 331 stroker from a 302 ci block. I have GT (p type) heads with OEM roller type rockers. My problem is the pushrods I bought are apparent slightly long at a little over 6.25 in. When installed I have no compression. Did anyone else have this problem and is it correctable without going to adjustable aftermarket roller rockers? Thanks for your input.

On some heads the rockers are not adjustable. You just tighten the nut to a specified torque. With these heads you adjust the lift with different length push rods. There is an adjustable push rod that you use to determine the length of push rod needed. Not sure this is your problem with the GT heads.

As little as .050" can make a difference between optimal geometry and non-optimal power robbing misalignment. Competition Cams sells a pusrod length checker and has a good article on how to optimize the pushrod length.

Part Number: 7701-1 measures 5.800" to 6.800"
Article: http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Products/Pushrods/

The tool is about $15. Pushrods (by length) cost between $120 - $160 from Competition Cams.
