I had ordered one from Summit, it wouldn't ship till the end of July, and now I got a letter saying it was cancelled, cause they couldn't get it from Centerforce.

It was the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch: CTF-DF490018

I need a 10" clutch, and I'd prefer it to be a higher performance one that can withstand some abuse. I was wondering if by any chance any of these would work.

I think the 3 I posted should work, because on Centerforce's site, the '76-78 302 Mustang II clutch says this:

DF490018 1976. - 1978. 5.0L 302 ENG. 10" 1-1/16-10

And the 3 I'm looking at are 10" clutches, 1 1/16 input shaft diameter, and 10 input spline quantity.

Edit: SPEC also looks to make Mustang II clutches. Stage 3 SF093 $319

There's also RAM.

I was just looking into this recently since I'll be needing a new clutch soon too. Another option for you is a RAM #98501. This is their Powergrip clutch which offers more holding power. They also offer #88501 which is an OEM replacement. It looks like #98501 is in stock at Summit. Hopefully they have more than one because I'll probably be ordering one soon too.

Hmm yeah, Summit does carry that one.. too bad it doesn't give much info about it.

Edit: Did some googling.

Well, I ordered mine from Flatlander Racing. These aren't a normally stocked part (no surprise), but Flatlander called RAM and apparently they can make them up in about 3 days. There must be something with the pressure plate that is specific to the II?

Of all the clutches I've changed I have yet to measure ones thickness.

There isn't a hard number. If rivited too thin is when wear is close to the rivets, if bonded it's when about worn to the bottoms of the slots.

It also depends on the friction material. Ceramics wear lots slower than organics.

are you coming tonight? I will ask Beau, BTW I am up fpr a Prescott run come on up we will take the focus, it gets 40mpg
I can't make it, I just got back from Sweden, I'm still jetlagged badly.. I only slept 3 hours last night. I sent Beau an email about the Spec stage 3.. my brain isn't too coherent for speaking about car stuff yet.

Ok this is my new list of clutch brands + part numbers for the II.

Centerforce: DF490018
Ram: 98501
SPEC: SF093
McLeod: 260836, 360018, 360018

I'm not sure what's included with which, I think Centerforce needs a throwout bearing, dunno about Ram or SPEC, and the 3 McLeod #s are clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing in that order.

Email I sent to Centerforce:

I recently tried ordering the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch for my Mustang II (DF490018) through Summit racing, it said it would ship in a month or something like that. But I got a letter from them after a few weeks saying that they were no longer being made.

Is this true, is the clutch/pressure plate combination no longer being made? If it is still actually being made, I am quite interested in still buying one. It's tough to find quality performance products for Mustang II's, so that's why I've been somewhat set on this specific clutch.

Thanks for all your help, I appreciate the help.

Their reply:

Hello
Gael,
Yes, this is true. The only vendor we had quit making parts and we have not been able to replace these parts with anything else.
Sorry,
