Roush 281 s/c vs. 03/04 cobra

well, it's kinda of like this, i have the S281 now, and i enjoy it. it has taken me a while to get it where it is now. i want to stay in the saleen family, there is no other mustang that comes close to it in the looks dept. i just wanted to know what side by side comparisons would reveal. is the saleen alot slower, or is it close enough? thanks for the help.

It's like this... it is slower, not blow your doors off slower but slower, but on the other hand there are a few imports out there that will beat us as well, there will ALWAYS be someone faster. But they will NEVER look as good as your car. The Saleen looks cant be beat. If the Cobra speed is what your after you really need to look for an 03/04 Cobra Saleen. At some point you have to balance the GO with your wallet. If you have the wallet speed is not a problem.

That's a great quote!

"If you have the wallet, speed is not a problem."

yep...how true theres always someone faster, im building a vert to look good...shootin for mid 12's with the V6...my list of mods going on are in my sig. but as long as someone else has more money, then your slower.

I am suprised no one has mentioned weight and the fact that the cobras have IRS. The cobras are a bit heavier and the IRS is either a plus or a minus, depending on who you talk to and your goals. Also, the 6 speed is a nice touch as well.

Power and modability can't be beat with the cobra though.

From the factory cobra's are beasts but you can also build up a 2v with forged internals and a nice blower that will put you in the 600rwhp mark easily. In the end it's all about money. I am selling my soon to by a house but it is killing me cause of the time invested to get it where it's at. It is only a bigger blower and cobra tanks and pump away from some serious power. The block was made to handle 800+hp by my builder which I am not going to get to test :nonono: Cobra's will usually depreciate more then Saleens also. :flag:

I've got my Series IV with bolt-ons to out-dyno a stock 03 cobra through the whole powerband. (I'm at 381.25 rwhp, 384.54 rwtq with CAI, Lightning MAF, 42# injectors, catted x-pipe and catback, 2.97inch pulley, 75mm TB, and fuel pump) I'm just waiting for a chance to race one once I get 3.73s installed. I hear that I should be able to take it hands down, since I'm lighter, don't have an IRS, and I'll have more gear.

That should take out a stock one, but my friend with nothing more than a CAI dynoed at 369 to the wheels at the steeda plant in florida on a dyno day.
So he's not far short of you and he hadn't really touched it.

Give the cobra a $250 pulley, a chip, and exhaust and you are looking at almost 500rwhp. And it's still untapped.

I have a low 12 street car. Raced my friend in his kb 03 cobra, and i got him by like 4 cars length till about 50mph, then he came by so fast i though i was parked.

Whole time i was ahead i was thinking "this ain't so bad", but seconds later it was that bad.

Then he proceed to outrun a Honda cbr 900, from a roll, everytime he shifted i could see a patch of pavement without any rubber.
