Exhaust Question

I have a 2003 V6 with a Dual Borla Side Exit Exhaust system. The only problem is that its not a true dual set up, it goes 2 to 1 and then 2. It hooked up to the y-pipe. I hear its VERY restrictive becuase of the turns in the pipe. I want to make it true dual to get a better flowing and sound exhaust.

Is it better to have a exhaust shop cut behind my cats and run straight pipes to the mufflers of the Borla system, or should I buy a GT take off H-pipe and then have them cut my Borla at the mufflers and add pipe?

Basically the question is, is a GT h-pipe worth getting or should I just have them extend the existing pipes from the cats to the mufflers?

Thats damn confusing. :bang:

Thats a VERY small picture of what the system looks like.

Yeah I admit the "<3" was pretty gay of me.

I bought the Borla Side Exhaust kit used (only like 10,000 miles on it) from someone off of eBay for something around $350 with shipping. From Borla new its like $800+ I belive. Its all stainless steel and all their systems are backed by a 1,000,000 mile warrenty (like K&N's filters) so I figured why not.

I was supposed to put it on my car when I came home from college for winter break myslef, but my dad went and had it put on at Mufflex Performance Exhaust in Newark, NJ. I think it was $75-100 to put on and they welded on the mounting brackets to my car, and gave me new rubber hangers.

It sounds ALOT better then the stock exhuast. Someone told me, when I was waiting to put it on, that they heard a v6 with Borla side exhuast and they said it sounded like 'bees in a can'. Mine doesn't at all. It is loud and has a good tone to it. Around 40mph when its in overdrive (I have an automatic), it sometimes has a drone to it becuase of the low rpm.

I would be more than happy to post clips and pictures. I just have to record some sound clips.

You can buy rocker panels cut out for side exhaust systems and paint them to match the car, but I dont have any money for that. Besides I think it looks pretty badass they wait it is now.

The tips get pretty dirty easily but are pretty easy to clean. I didn't clean the tips before I took these pictures, as you can see. (These were taken back in February and the roads had a lot of salt on them.)

Well, what size bees? I mean, an oil drum with bumble-bees the size of footballs would sound alot different than yellow-jackets in a coffee can...

(too many beers)

I personally like the body kits with side exhaust, but your pipes look pretty tight.

Pipes look tight? Damn that sounds ghey.

Anyways, nice ride. :nice:
