clunk noise

after i installed my alluminum drive shaft i have a clunk noise. did i install it wrong or something?

the bolts are probably coming loose. they back out if you don't use locktite

when does it clunk? (on decel, etc)....that is weird. i just got mine and was unimpressed with how they balanced it (not that i think you are having a balance issue - just a comment).

anyone else? this happens when i let off the gas and it goes clunk. then i give it gas and it goes clunk. i can move the driveshaft (with my hands) freely for about one and a half turn before it stops. the u joints are ok.

i think the driveshaft is not supposed to move at all. thats maybe why its clunking.

either the rearend needs new gears or your u joints are out or the bolts, it could be the tranny too

I have a clunck to. What is your exhaust setup? I have dumps and I found that the sound is the mufflers banging against the driveshaft. I didn't here it as much until I got the aluminum.

I have the same clunck on decel, I can move my driveshaft slightly if I really try. Anyone figured this one out yet?

i had the exact same thing, a clunk under the under the car upon acceleration and then it would happen again once i let of the gas. It turned out to be the throw-out bearing. My only problem now is that I will wear out a throw out bearing in about 8 months with normal driving

I had that when I mis-installed some gears and the pinion had too much play. If the pinion nut isnt tight, the gear will wobble and go clunk when it shifts from accel to decel and the gear jumps almost a tooth.

It could very well be the exhaust. Look at a stocker and a aluminum side by side and see how the aluminum is much wider. When you accel, the motor tilts and the exhuast goes with it and could quite well smack the exhuast pipes.

my friend had a clunking noise, the rear frame was cracked it was the rear end smacking the subframe...

I had a clunck a while back,it was the rubber bushing in the upper control are was complete gone.So it would moving slightly.

Check everything around the rear end,if nothing look wrong,I dont know what to say other than a gear install problem .But you said it wasnt doing it befor,so I dunno.

In super super rare instances, the pinion nut can back off. The key to this is if you can wiggle the driveshaft... like rotationally. It should be solid.

I'm going to check the pinion nut (Is this the nut in the rear flange). I have some play back there and it is not the ujoints moving. I will try this as well. I have a feeling that its my tailshaft bushing causing play in the driveshaft... I get around to that.
