Deciding between 05 Stang or 02 Trans Am

$250/month is more than I can afford, and I don't care if its a Viper I'm not spending more than I can afford per month...done that WAY too many times, time to look out for the family first. :)

ok well maybe if it was a Viper....:D

For what it's worth, my current 2002 Z28 is a much more solid car than my last two Mustangs were. Sample size is pretty small though :)
I guess I got a dud then :( The motor knocked, the rear-end, well, lets just say it's a joke , the head light sockets melted!!, and it drank oil. Oh, and the roof started to bubble up! Go to LS1tech search around.

I would stay far, far away.

They are very fast and fun cars.
If I were going for an LSx I would go for the gto, but I want another mustang. Have had great luck with fords :D

i had a 1995 Mustang before I bought my 95 T/A...car was in AWESOME shape, I couldn't find a scratch on it. The dealer couldn't keep it running for longer than 20 minutes at a time before it died and wouldn't restart for another 10 minutes. If the old posts are still on here you can find them :)

Any car can be a pain in the ass, its not restricted to any one brand :)

Hey Gary,

Enjoy the T/A. They are beautiful no doubt about it. Is it in fact the 2002 T/A WS6? If it is, I am sort of envious. :) I have had two neighbors that have them and I fondly refer to them as the "SR-71 Blackbirds" of the Pontiac T/A line-up. Those f'ing things sound mean and FLY!.. Guy behind me has his so dialed in and it just roars past my house. I can hear him coming loud about a 1/8th of a mile away. Hahahahahaha

Enjoy. I have bought 1 car from Carmax and sold 2 Stangs to them. They are indeed fair "The way car buying should be"..... and selling to them isn't shabby either.

I'm not brand loyal by any means. The LS1 F-body cars share common defects, go to their boards and search the old posts when they were still in production. There were some very pissed off customers. I just wanted the guy to know what he might be getting into.
Most of them still on the road have been modified to correct those defects; ie 12-bolt rear-end, catch cans due to all the oil being sucked through the pcv valve, honed block new pistons, to correct The Generals great quality control etc...etc...
If that car is a six speed you WILL break the pinion and or carrier :flag: 7.625 rear Oh My.. SNap.. Check to make sure the plastic roof isn't bubbling up and coming unglued

But guess I got a lemon.. Have fun, they haul ass, you'll beat all the mustangs

The answer seems obvious to me. Yea a 02 LS1 T/A is faster, but its ride, shakes and rattles are worse then your 03 Stang plus its ergonomics are horrible.

Keep your 03 Mustang and save your $$ for a GT500 or other future SE Mustang with more HP.

Yeah cause your never going to have any problems with the stang. Cars are cars they all break.

honestly the ergonomics of the stang are one of the main reasons I'm getting rid if it...I hate the way it feels inside compared to the T/A's (I've owned 2 LT1's now I know about the rear ends, there are people running 11's on the stockers FYI :)

I did it on Saturday, I traded in the 03 for the LS1. Its a beautiful car and I'm glad I did after driving it (automatic, FYI). nothing wrong with Mustangs, just it wasn't for me. Maybe in a few years I can afford a new style one :)

noone asked you to take time to read it if you didn't want to.

Make no mistake...

It is my job to read it.

So smart guy, yes someone did ask me to read it. That is part of the gig of being a moderator/admin.

Anything else brilliant to add? You see how far it got Nick, and I didn't even have to ban him, someone else took the liberty for me.

Hey Nick...(If you are still around. LOL)

If you see this:

FWIW, the 2002 Camaro was one of the top three most reliable "sporty cars" for J.D Power's three year test (1st was the Miata, 2nd Camaro, third MR2 Spyder). I would imagine the Firebird would not be far behind. Oh and yes, I would imagine the 2002 Mustang was in that category as well :)

I just checked the JD Powers site, and you're right, the 2002 Camaro did get 5 stars in the 3-year Vehicle Dependability Study.

However, the 2002 Mustang only got 3 :(
