What happened?

The tranny overheated and froze up. Thought I was in for another rebuild. The steel shift rod expanded at a different rate than the aluminum shift fork and it decided it didnt want to move. Not enough time in between runs to cool down. Got 3 solid sessions though and hit 137 on the front straightaway. Trailered it to the hotel and Jeff from Ross Racing came up the next day and wiggled the stick around a bit and then pushed it and it unfroze. Been working fine ever since.

Yeah. It looked like more bad luck. But, it turned out to be nothing. Now it looks like things are turning around for LZR RED SNAKE. :nice:

LZR RED, It was good seein you and you club back down. what was up with the rest of the guys. Show up but not run the track? I am definately NOT going to get stuck in any novice class next year. The new N/I class wasn't up to my expectations. Question for you guys, what water temp to you see while on the track? Mine gets all the way up to the "L" in NORMAL, but stays there. Jay

From what I remember, my temp was normal.

I'm glad it wasn't serious Dave.

Thanks - me too. Mustangers are the best guys in the world. I had met some buddys 4 years ago at Roundup and they drove their race car and trailered mine to the hotel. I thought I was going to have to spend another $1000 to fix it. Got to the hotel and drank 3 beers and a shot of Crown royal and decided I wasnt going to let that mess up my weekend. When Jeff unlocked it , I was convinced that God truly loves mustangs.

Jay - how ya doin buddy. Sure was glad to finally get to see you Thursday, even though it was a short time. I missed having you all over my tail this year. Yeah - sounds like you might need to have your radiator cleaned out. I never moved off of where it was if I was just driving down the road. Are you going to go to the MCA West Coast Nationals in Lacey this weekend. I will be there on Sunday. Hope to see you there.

Yah, i got my photo a couple days ago. Its an awesome picture. 1st session when the car was still blingin' .
I recently switched to AMSoil 0-30w full synthetic, and the car runs great everywhere, but i believe the thinner oil doesnt disapate the heat as well when on the track(4k-7k constant RPMs). I'm going back to PR for another track day with the Alfa Club on 9-15. I'm going to try my good ole Castol Syntec 10-30W again to see if it cools it back down. I'll also get the the coolent flushed out with some new stuff(since it has 25k miles on the current coolent). Cheap and easy solutions.

I have a feeling its more of a cooling issue than the Amsoil. I run OW-30 in one of my cars and my truck. I know people that ran Amsoil 0W-30 in race cars with no issues like you discribed.
A certain percentage of NASCAR teams, (even those with oil company sponsers)
ran Amsoil 0W-30 in the qualifing motor and switched to Amsoil 20W-50 for the race motor. Try a cooling system flush and some Water Wetter.

Hey how long did it take to get your picture? I know some one else that is waiting. I got mine in less than a week I think.
