Taking a Vortech blown stang on a 1300mi trip what should I know

First off this is a great forum, being a veteran of turbo imports and the ls1 crowd I'm really starting to enjoy the wealth of info on here.

Anyways, I just purchased my first mustang, an 01 GT that is has a Vortech S-Trim on it. This is my first car with a supercharger on it, so I'm not TOO familiar with the cent. chargers and what is required of them. The car is in Florida and I get the pleasure of driving it back to Ohio this Saturday after I fly down there. All of the fluids from the diff to the radiator have just been changed for the trip so all that stuff I'm confident about. I just don't know for a trip that long, if there is anything I should be looking for when it comes to a cent. blower. Obviously the overheating issue, but is there any other noises or things I should be looking for?

I really appreciate the feedback and looking forward to getting lots more info to help the car run in the 10s (after a built block of course, it runs high 11s now).

Nothing. If the car is set up properly and runs well then it should handle like stock on the highway. It only starts to 'rumble' when you get on it... so if you are not sure about the tune n stuff then keep the rpm's down until you get it to a dyno.

You should not have any problems driving 1300 miles if nothing is wrong with the car. It doesn't really start making boost until 3000 rpm. I would drive it around locally for 30 or 40 miles just to make sure it is OK before I started the trip. The spare belt is probably a good idea, but make sure you know how to install it and have all the right tools. I would not really get on it until I got it home and dyno tuned. You can blow your engine within 1/4 mile at WOT if you have a crappy tune. Check your oil a couple times early in the trip just to make sure it doesn't have a leak nobody told you about.

all sounds like good advice to me.
If the equipment is in good shape and the tune was verified you should
have no problems. The car should drive like stock below 3000 RPM as said.

Thanks for the great advice guys, this car is amazing. The car is tuned by Steeda so I'm very confident the car has the correct A/F ratios. There's no doubt I will be babying the car until I get it home for obvious reasons.

I asked guys on another board about this belt issue, how often do these belts break? I'm hoping it isn't a very normal thing to be constantly replacing belts. Can I just goto the local ford dealer and pick up a factory belt to bypass the blower if I were to have a belt problem?

The Steeda tune is not the greatest. No, you cannot bypass the blower.

PS: Why don't you stop in Atlanta and have Tim at Modular Powerhouse tune it for you?

Well this is what comes with it, I have two options.

SCT Chip and tune (Tuned by Steeda, original tune was done by Diablosport as listed) Have an extra diablosport revolution chip with 3 tunes (flip chip)

What would you recommend? I'd love to get it tuned on the way up but I'm doing this while im off work and have absolutely no time to stop, I'm doing this as a straight shot. Get down there at 2pm and non-stop driving back up to ohio to get up here sunday 8-9am or so.

I'm sure TL1000S could shed some more light on the situation as he knows the owner personally :)

It is about 4 hours away, and I'll be driving it about 4 miles from their shop on my way back home to NW Ohio. Good to know they aren't too far away and I can rely on their tunes. Thanks for the info on a local tuner Jim.

The car originally made 403hp and was backed down to 385hp witht he SCT chip. The Diablo chip came with the blower kit and it was making like 350hp or so with the tune, and the owner wasn't happy and went SCT. The car does run strong, but if I could have Tim tune my car, I would be all over that. I was in Atlanta about a month or so ago and stopped in and he gave me a quote on a nice 302 stroker motor. :hail2:
