Cobra 1

I have a 96 Mustang Cobra with a heating problem. The engine temp runs just under the Hot on the gauge, and the Alternator also cuts back on output voltage once it reaches this running temp. I only have 18,600 km's on this car,and have had a cooling system flush, installed new thermostat and rad cap ,but still runs quite hot. The car has never overheated but this high running temp concerns me. I cannot get a thermostat under 195 ,Does any one have any suggestions ?
Thanks Guy's

96 Cobra heating problem

I had the thermostat and cooling system flush done at the Ford Dealer,so i Hope that they did bleed the air out of the system properly. I was having this problem even before this was done,so I just thought that this might rectify the problem but it didn't. I will give your suggestion a try .
Thanks for the advice COBRA90GT

How's your belt? Could it be slipping?
Thanks for your reply mustangrmyk, I have had the Idler pully checked for tension and it was ok, and i also replaced the belt. Still having the problem.. I have finally decided to take it into one of the SVT dealers in town today. Hopefully they can determine the problem . Could be a temp. sensor for the electric fan or something else. I'm counting on these guy's now, Thanks again for taking the time to reply ,and have a great day. Hope to hear from you again.

Being in Canada, I wouldn't expect this to be a problem, but '96 Cobras did have a heating problem that was serviced through a TSB. People with '96 Cobras living in or driving through the southern United States, particularly the Southwestern deserts experienced a heating problem that was resolved through changing a bunch of parts under the TSB. The OBDII is programmed to dial back timing, then shut cylinders down to "save" the motor when the car is overheating (According to what SVT told me at the time). Not sure if this could explain the alternator/charging condition you described.

Start with the service work done at the dealer--was it done properly, then consider how hot it might be. I only had a heating problem in the Mojave desert, but had the TSB done to my car because I may have to go back through the Mojave at some time...
