Yup, you heard right. Your car can be impounded and auctioned off for State profit if you're caught with a modified car in California.

No wonder there are so many car chases in CA. If I knew some doughtnut chomper (and my Uncle is an Inspector in NY, I don't hate cops) was going to impound and auction off my car because I had an S/C, intake, or exhaust on my car, I would run too! If you're going to rip away $40k in property from me and all the sweat, blood, tears, and emotions I put into that car, I'd crush it myself - right into the driver's side of your cruiser! Facist scumbags. Stop paying for BS and get your budget in order! Robbing your citizens of their property is NOT the way to balance a state budget. Anti-masculinist facists! :fuss:

LMAO that is the most bull**** thing I have ever heard, my uncle is a cop, and he says there is nothing about this. If seen ricers with huge exhaust go by cops hundreds of times. Do you even live in california? That site, thenewspaper.com, is just giving out bull**** so gullible people like you believe it. If there was a law, they would have stated the law # or whatever it is listed under. It is not illegal to modifiy a car. Thats why people like Saleen and Roush(dont know if roush is in CA) are still in business. Do they take your car away for not passing smog? NO! They just tell you to fix it. You dont even get a ticket. Gullible people here.

Also you know why there are so many car chases in CA? CA has the most motorists in the US. (seems like it atleast) If there were 20million motorists and 1% were illegal drivers/car jackers there would be 200,000 bad drivers out there. And out of that, if 1% got caught there would be 2000 drivers. And if 1% got caught, that would be 20 you see on TV. But im sure more than 20 get shown. You see, with more drivers , more things can happen. Its like having 1 motorist in Maine and saying its the most accident free state in the whole world.

I live in CA and I've never heard of someone getting a vehicle taken away for mods... sure, we get fix-it tickets... I just got one for loud pipes on my Harley. We CAN mod legally, but the parts need a CARB number. Since this is a new vehicle, I suspect we'll start seeing smog legal headers and s/c's in the near future...

The law was written to deal with all the STREET RACING that goes on... to assume that it makes ANY and ALL MOD's illegal is premature to say the least.

Anyone who's lived in SoCal can speak to the extent that street racing has become a problem. I lived much of my early life in L.A. and can speak from experience that once night fell in the San Fernando valley you couldn't drive more than a couple of miles without someone challenging you to a race. When my younger bro owned his Roadrunner he'd be challenged right after pulling the car out of his garage.

I wish my town had people who wanted to race...Northern Virginia is all BMW drivers who drive like my grandma. Even the Corvettes and Porsches go slow (even when it's 2am and no one on the road) :notnice:

do everyone a favor and stop posting your propaganda on all the mustang forums.... the exact same crap

I live in Rocklin/Roseville, CA and I have seen as I drive to work, multiple vehicles pulled off the road by Roseville Police and CHP in an area around the Galleria Mall. Inspections in progress.

They are not just hitting "ricers". Trucks, Domestics... If you make noise, you're gonna get looked at and cited.

Right or Wrong, it's B.S.....Work on the gross pollutors or intoxicated drivers. Sad thing is most the fart can cars are the ones that are acting like azes and racing everyone.

Hey buddy, I was just trying make people aware of a law I (and most other car enthusiasts) don't agree with. How in the HELL is posting to TWO Mustang forums considered posting "propoganda??" Hell, I picked up on this law from someone else's post on svtperformance.com!

I can't get over this. Propoganda!? What's the matter with you? Who do you think is for these laws? The guys who like modifying their cars, or all the guys who drive electric go-karts and the radical feminists who would like to nueter men?? I wonder why the ACLU isn't fighting a law like this that obviously infringes on the rights of our freedom of expression?

I'm just making you aware of a law I and many others are outraged about. Don't like it? Don't read the post!

The law is right, impound every modified car. If you want to race go to the drag strip.
BTW, read what the law say, don't assume anything. If you have Bassani, Borla, Flowmaster, Stall Converter, S/C or Turbo or headers, all these products are CARB approved and legal to use. Nitrous IS illegal and a lot of ricers use it.
Obleedingme, your post is total nonsense.

Yeah, sure it is. We'll see what you think of it when a cop stops you for "loud" exhaust, pops your hood, then impounds your car for an aftermarket intake or underdrive pulleys. How moronic of you to state that my post is "nonsense."

Did you read Jenn05stang's post? She lives in CA and is experiencing this law first-hand. You have a loud exhaust and they pull you over for HOURS, inspecting every inch of your car. You think that's okay!? I think you're nuts.

Do you know of anyone in the recent past that has had their vehicle "taken" because of mods? I don't think so. It can be impounded for street racing, and I think if you're busted selling drugs in it (that may have changed), but not just for mods. Read my previous post. I got popped for loud pipes on my Harley. The cop knew the pipes were not street legal and all I got a fix-it ticket that will cost me nothing. As a matter of fact, a ticket for loud exhaust is "subjective" and if you know a cop you can have them listen to it and sign off on the ticket if they feel it isn't too loud. That's why it's good to keep in touch with a cop!

There was a time about 10 years ago when Los Angeles was cracking down on modified engines. There were smog check machines on some freeway on-ramps, and I even saw a check-point (I thought it was for DUI) but they were opening the hoods on cars. That was 10 years ago and the laws have changed, and they don't do there here anymore...

Yes we saw Jenn05Stang's post... maybe you need to read it again... she didn't say they impounded anyones cars... YES YOU CAN GET CITED FOR MODS, but it's just a fix-it ticket.

Do you live in CA? It doesn't sound like it.

Like i said AGAIN, THEY DONT IMPOUND YOUR STUPID CAR. Did you read MY POST? You get cited. MY UNCLE IS A COP YOU IDIOT. I cant belive this nut goes around asking if people read someone's post, but doesnt read anyone elses post. Any he is just picking the post that he thinks helps him. Its like someone says, "Hey, your so stupid , you make Bush smart" (EXAMPLE DO NOT FLAME, lol) and he thinks someone said, "Hey, your smart."

Maybe I missed it. But where did she say you get pulled over for hours? Yes she did say there were multiple vehicles. But I didn't see any time standard there. And I seriously doubt any cop would want/need to look for hours at your car. And as was said before. If you have CARB approved parts. Then they are legal to be on your car.

If I see any more name calling from you I'll be giving you a very special Custom Title.

I read about it in the Sac Bee. It's BS, and they are going about it the wrong way, but I understand thier reasons. There have been lots of people killed out here due to idiots street racing.

The law is saying they can pull you over on probably cause (Loud pipes, guages, tint, ect.) but if you have cats in you exhaust, carb #'s under the hood, proper smog/registration/license/tags/no nitrous, there isn't anything they can do.

They are basically saying they are going to pull you over based upon suspicion, and will search your car based upon this suspicion. They can't impound your car for weld-in flows.
