air conditioning delete

I know I can delete the a/c, but I don't want to take it off right now, I just want to bypass it for the cooler months out of the year when its not neccesary. Can I do that by just routing a shorter belt around it, or is that going to be hard on the a/c or engine? Any little extra horses are fun to free up

I don't think you can just bypass it like you can the smog pump. Your tensioner will not work right when the belt runs from the P/S pump to the alternator. That's why they made the kit that moves the P/S pump so you can utilize the tensioner.

No need. You won't pick up anything by bypassing it and leaving it there even if you do figure it out. Either ditch it completely or leave it alone.

Seriously, take the belt off and spin the pulley. It freewheels when the A/C is off and should spin quite easily.

So leaving the A/C intact just gives you another idler pulley.

There is NO HP difference between a car with a/c and one without a/c when the a/c is not running.....just a weight difference.

You took the type right out of my fingers.

The "gain" people talk about with a A/C delete is actually a loss, a weightloss be be exact. The A/C and all it's components togeather is heavy, and sits in front of the wheels. You also delete the clutter under the hood.

I say, if it's a street car, and the A/C is working fine, then keep it, but if it goes out, and it doesn't mean that much to you, scrap it. The compressor went out on mine, started leaking oil and making noise. Usually when that happens debris gets scattered through the system, so everything would have to be replaced or I would be eating up new compressors, and since I never used it anyways, I junked it all. Now the car has no HVAC period.
