My Turn For Help

But here's my situation now:

Well I'm 18 and ready to buy my first car. Since all the GTs are gone except for a grossly overpriced GT with almost no options, I'm kinda stuck (or blessed....yet to decide ;) ) with a v6. So we have one that I like on the lot now. Its a premium v6 with the red and black leather, standard, IUP, everything and in oxford white. I'm not a huge fan of white but the other v6s are either auto or base models. So should I just pick this one up or order a brand new 06?

One of my biggest problems is not wanting to have the SAME MUSTANG EVERYONE HAS...especially the soccer moms. So I was thinking of ordering an 06 in either the new blue or silver, with the pony package. This at least eliminates the 05 models as being the same. So I'm kinda stuck. We're bringing home the white one from work tomorrow to try it out and see how its goes. I was planning on throwing on the GT500 body kit to set it apart and throw on a GT rear bumper and add dual exhaust. All I really know is I am DYING for a mustang.....and I figure I can trade in for a GT later next year when I have some more credit established, saved more money for bigger down payment, and have one in stock that I like.

You would be better off going for what you want...if you have to think twice about a buy...then don't buy it. Why risk regretting it? Another thing...do not let local mark-ups and availability deter you from a GT. If you want it for sticker..you can have it, you just need to really search.
 
Yeah I test drove that white v6 and it was amazing. It was my first time actually driving a stick mustang..I mean "driving" though as in cruising and pushing it. I get them in at work but they're customer cars and I cant do anything...I rarely get out of first gear in em. Well, i really liked it. Fantastic car even for a v6. I was suprised that it was so fast. I was very happy and ready to just dish out for the v6 and wait for the 07 GT. THEN right when I got back from the test drive I got to drive a GT and was back to point A. So hm...

But I'm basically stuck getting a v6 anyway. I was talking to the sales lady and she made a good point. Getting a 2005 mustang will give you more to brag about than a 2006 because its the first series to have the updated body style and its like...special.

I'm still stuck in a rut. But thanks Jenns05Stang, you were right. Much more power than my Ranger :)

Sometimes, you just have to drive it to believe it. No problem. There is no shame in owning a V-6 Mustang at 18! :nice:

Rule of thumb to remember in the engineering world - Number of Cylinders and Displacement alone do not always specifically denote Horsepower and Torque production. It's all in how it is built, Pliskin. :flag:

I hope you are getting close to a resolution. I know the torment in the whole process gets tiring.

Ha and it keeps building and building. So I talk to my sales lady and she says I could be hooked up with a GT. Putting $12k down would make it pretty affordable.


Oh yeah, I noticed the shifter in the v6 is different than the GT. Why is this? Isn't it a different transmission?

I don't mean to upset anyone here (I have an '05 V6 Convertible & love it) but my '03 MG TF160 could match the V6 & would suprise the GT owners on here.

The TF160 has a 4 cylinder 1.8litre, 16V, DOHC, all aluminum alloy motor. It produces 160Bhp & does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds, top speed 142 Mph - these are stock figures by the way.

When I'm telling people about my old car they switch off when I say it was just a 4 cylinder motor but wake up again when I tell them the performance figures.

As I said above I love my V6 stang, it's got enough power for my liking, though I'll probably modify it later when money allows, so this is not a slight on the V6 at all - just to clarify that point :).

Pilskin, ultimately you should buy what you want. If you like the V6 buy it, it's a nice car...if you really want a V8 then your Ranger is not going to depreciate much more than it has so you may as well wait or look further afield to find one now. IMO at 18 you are fortunate to have this dilemma...my car at 18 was an '85 Austin Metro with a 1.0 litre engine & a 0-60 time of "yes...eventually" ;-)....oh the difference in times & countries hey.
Whatever you're final decision is I hope you enjoy it.
 
Thanks. I'm still trying to think. I have the sales lady ready to tell me about the GT on monday. Its all about when they can get me one. Thats the deciding factor. I love mustangs and I LOVE the new body style. I just want a mustang....period. If theres no way to get a GT then I'd be just fine with a v6.

I own a v6 vert. I don't race (except in my own disturbed world in my head) and this v6 has plenty of power for me. I spend most of my driving time watching out for LEO's anyway, so I'm not sure I want to go much faster. I owned a 911 in the 80's, so I know what ear flapping accelaration feels like, I just know I love my 05 v6 (not up to speed with the GT) stang... :banana: :banana: :banana:
