Did anyone running a head and cam package and an S-trim have problems with the idle and surging with the stock pcm right after installing it? I turned mine on yesterday but it appears to be running extremly rich and surges really bad with I try to accelerate it the car dies out. I have yet to dial in my timing and adjust the throtle but wanted to get some feedback from someone running a similar combintation. I do plan to have a custom chip burned but now with this it looks as if it will have to be very very soon.

I have a somewhat similar combo, and I would say just keep nursing the idle by foot. That worked for me. Its obviously not a permanent( or safe) fix, but atleast it will be drivable. The computer has the ability to learn to some extent, so be patient with it. I am still running 30 lb/hr injectors(with a bandaid fmu) and I believe its the only reason I can get away with no tuning device. I barely drive it anyway though.

Definitely get a tune/chip right away. Most folks say a dyno tune is manditory with a SC alone. You have the heads and cam too.

If I were you, I might even tow it to the dyno shop.

But to answer your question, it sounds like you need to adjust your timing. Probably nothing else needs attention before you get into the dyno shop. If I were you, I'd call the shop that you bought your parts from, or tech lines for the SC and head/cam for suggestions on initial timing to get you driveable so you can get to the tune shop.

Good luck.

Thanks guys tommorow I will trailer it to get the timing adjusted and try to adjust the throttle and fuel pressure. I would like to get it to where it is drivable at least for a few hundred miles prior to putting it on a dyno.

If your running 42lb injectors on the stock computer it will run rich all the time. I've tried with no avail. Only thing that will correct this is a tuning device or custom burned chip. Mine was so bad I could spray 10 foot streams of fuel out the tailpipe. Your car is dying because there is so much fuel getting dumped it's fouling out your spark plugs. I know it all too well.

wow, talk about the memories. as was already said though, the only thing that is going to correct the driveability properly is a chip or tuning device. the computer is capable of compensating to a point, but with the parts you have, it will never reach 100% without the help of a tune.

Ok guys I had the timing set but the car still would not idle. My buddy said it sounded like a mass air meter problem. I cleaned the meter with throttle body cleaner although it is not recomended and the car idled good after that and is now drivable. It appears to be the meter some how got dirty now I will break it in a few hundred miles then it is of to Houston's Strictly Performance for the tune and chip burn.
