need advice on affordable tires

after buying drag radials for my 17 inch cobra rims. i'm not happy the way they fit, they're just too wide of a tire for the rim. and since i still have the original tires on the front, and they are no longer made. i want to put the same tire all around. i'm looking for an affordable tire that will perform good. i know we all get what we pay for. being on a buget, just wanted to see if someone came across a good tire for the money. i know not to long ago someone posted up about a good tire that was a great price. but i had no luck finding that thread.

BFG G-force Sports. 'Z' rated tires. $109.00 from TireRack or Summit Racing. I have them on my stock tri-bars and they are great for both wet and dry surfaces.

dunlop direzza's 105ea at tire rack. got them on my 95 and love them. they are a drift racing tire.

Agreed. Except, I like my Ecsta Supra 712's. A little more aggressive, and only $100 per corner.

Kuhmo ASX's a lil bit more money but definately worth it. less road noise and the tires are great.

Dunlop and BFG make awesome tires that can be had for good prices on some of their lines. I've had good experiences with both. I'd favor BFG a little more over Dunlop. Falken isn't tooo bad, and from my experiences sumitomo just makes junk tires. That is about all I can speak on...

Do winter/snow tires make much of a difference at all? I know it sure is a pain driving a stang in the snow, and any help would be worth a few bucks..

In the winter you need a dedicated snow tire. Nothing less. Get 4 on some cheap rims and swap them instead of using your 'good' tires in winter.

i'm not knockin anybody, but i just don't see how anyone can say kum-ho's are worth anything. i work at a dealer and get to drive very similar cars equipped with various tires and can say kum-hoes are bottom of the barrel. if you want the very best in street tires you should buy michelin pilot sports. other good brands are bridgestone, dunlop, bfg, pirelli, contis in that order. this is just my professional opinion. these are my new tires for my new wheels, definetly not a rain or snow tire.

someone suggested fuzion zri tires, thats what i have on my stang now, but with my kenne bell 9# blower they dont hook up at all, theyre decent as long as you dont have "TO MUCH" torque, they were great before my kenne bell, but now i'm leaning toward some michelin pilot sport or toyo proxes t1-s , go to toyo.com u have to check those out.( or i might just get nitto drag radials, i havent decided)

Pilot Sports are not cheap. They were $300+ each for my 01 740i Sport with the 18" M parallel wheels. They are, however, an absolutely amazing tire.

Possibly you missed the portion of the post asking about good affordable tires. Because the Michelin Pilot Sports cost 2 and a half times as much as the Kumho's. That's a tad over a negligible difference in my book. And while I won't quibble over the fact that the Michilin's are better tires, I don't see how they can possibly be 2.5 times better (especially when you are just going to burn them up anyway!!!).

Most of your other suggestions are equally ill fit for a price conscious purchase.

Kumho's are reasonably sticky, fairly decent in road manners, and are insanely cheap. THAT is how plenty of folks can say Kumho's are worth anything.

there are quite a few tires in the kum-ho price range that are lightyears better. a few posts back i reccomended dunlop direzza's. 105 a tire and far superior. even the p-zero corsa's i posted a pic of are not that much more than a kum-ho. go to tire rack and you will find many tires that are in the kum-ho price range and far better tires. tires, imo, are too important to choose based solely on price. if you are going to just burn them off, go buy a used tire.
