Mach 460 sucks! new speakers or new system?

Ok, the mach 460 sounds OK, its better than some OEM equipment, but still doesnt sound good enough. It seems to be OK for Hip Hop/Rap, but not for rock. My question is, is it just the speakers soundling like crap? If i replace just the speakers, will it sound good and will it all have enough power to push aftermarket speakers? Will just replacing speakers not mess with any of the amps not working, speakers sound like crap BS that you get when just replacing the head unit? Are after market speakers dirctly compatible with the stock Mach 460 amps and deck? Thanks

you sir are on crack. I've had several Sound quality sound systems and 2 SPL systems. The mach system is great for rock with some added real bass. I added two concept CEX-10's(450 RMS each, dvc) and the CD-810 amp(i tested it, it puts out 1284 watts RMS)... sounds great, actually, Ive been complimented on it several times, asking what kind of component set i had :rlaugh:

were you under the alcofluence of incohol when you came to that conclusion?

my mach system in my 02 GT rocks...wether it's rock, rap, hiphop, r&b, etc...now it's not exactly JL audio XR or ZR components, but it's better than about 80% of all other audio out there...and it's covered by my warranty...so i can't beat that at all!

the mach 460 absolutely blows! The mach 1000 is better with the sub but still not worth the money Ford charged us for it. I had mine completely torn out the day after i brought it home from the dealer. I couldn't wait to put some nice stuff in.

These threads pop up every couple of weeks then the old guys chime in and say its great cause they are used to a push button radio with one 4inch speaker in the dash. Then others say i listen to my exhaust...herrr herrr they are easily entertained i guess? It depends on you, are you into aftermarket audio then ditch it cause its junk. If you like to just have some sound while driving then the mack is ok for just some sound.

oh really?

well, i just happen to have 2 sets of XR 6.5" components and a 300/4 amp right now...and for the price i paid for my full JL outfit, compared to my mach audio...i think it sounds damn good...i've listened to all other aftermarket audio, and to me, JL is the best...but dollar for dollar i don't think i'll be switching this stuff into my stang...it's not worth the time and labor to strip it all out when it already sounds this good...can it sound better? YES it CAN, but is it worth it to most people, NO

what do you expect with mids-tweeters.

atleast the monsoon system has highs and lows insted of just mids.

you should chage the whole system out cause it all 2ohms and whatever do chage will most likely be 4 or 8ohms

*please move this to Sound N Shine

so what are you saying?????
you have aftermarket speakers but don't want to use them?
It takes maybe 2 hours to remove the old system and replace the speakers with new ones. Your 6.5's are a direct swap. and it doesn't take long to run a power wire and cables to the trunk..find a good ground and hook up some amps and a sub. Switching head units is minutes if you have the proper harness which is free from most chain stores. So I don't know what labor and time you speak of? A few hours on a sunday afternoon and your done. This is basic mechanic work. If your not up to it then thats a different story.

Well, to be the first one to actually answer the OPs question... When you purchase aftermarket speakers, 99% of the time it's best to also purchase an amplifier for them. Aftermarkets just sound better that way. So get some new amps, route around those Mach 460 ones, and have fun!

The Mach 460 is not bad, but if you like music it's crap! There is no clarity to it! Sounds like a cheap factory radio with some amps. My wife had a sebring with the infinity system, and it's night and day. I think it's the speaker quility! Oh, and the GM Bose system is GREAT! You can't compare the Mach and Bose....

In answer to the ORIGINAL question - I would put some speakers in it... Boston's are my fav for that crisp sound you look for....

Im begging for you guys to tell me that the reply's in this post are a joke..you guys are kidding right? I feel like slapping every one of you idiots..either you have never heard of a "half-way descent audio system before, or the replys from this thread are from users over the age of 45..The mach system is a joke, i replaced the system with some cdt audio eurosport 2-way 6.5" with a custom kickpanel powering off a jl 300.2 slash amp and a kenwood 7017 hu. front sound stage ONLY..no rearfills..the system is approximately 86 times better then the stock mach..IN EVERY CATEGORY..clarity,bass,treble,Loud volume with no distortion..and "THAT SOUND"..the deep smooth tones...you guys are the one's on crack..and dont respond..WELL "compared to most OEM SYSTEMS"..OEM SYSTEMS are crap, mach is crap..period. i recommend you all replace your mach systems with some nice 3-way components from either rainbow, focal, cdt audio, or morel..PLEASE:)

It's the head unit. The speakers are actually not bad. I didn't realize how muddy the factory system sounded until I went from my old 99 with a Sony MP-70 to my new 03 with the stock system. Throw a new head unit and maybe a sub in there, and you'll be fine.

mach

my suggestion would be to buy the setup you want and install it all at once. Make sure you get a good deck with lotsa of high volt preouts ( to connect to aftermarket amps) I have a top end panasonic which has faired me well. Make sure you get some nice speakers (I have 6.5 Infinity perfect components in front, 6.5 Infinity coaxials in the back) it took some custom work making them fit, but it was worth it over the 6x8's i would have had otherwise. Also, make sure you use some sort of sound deadening (dynomat or equivalent) around the speakers and make sure all your panels are tight. Make sure you power those speakers with a descent aftermarket amp (sounds way better, better punch and way better volume without distortion) i have a jbl 100x4 channel which more than does the job. A setup like that will blow away ANY stock system out there and would be more than enough for most you old farts. For the young guys a sub is obviously crucial, just make sure you go for quality over quantity. I have a one infinity perfect 10" sub with a descent 600watt MTX amp and that sounds allot better than some friends 2x12 lower quality speaker sub systems, especially when it comes to sound quality. And again, like with the other speakers, use some sound deadening in the trunk area (licence plate too) and the bass won't vibrate your car and will actually sound alittle better. And a setup like this isn't too expensive if you catch the pieces on a good deal or even ebay, and if you instal it yourself even better. Basically this setup ran me about 1200 Canadian, so 900 US$ and it sounds great and kills many systems I have heard where people have spent 2000+. Thats just my two cents.

infinity

The infinities sound amazing. They are so clear with great highs and pounding bass. My car with the sub off sounds like many peoples car with the sub on. I would spend the little bit more money and get the kappa's over the reference but whatever your budget get what fits you and you won't be disapointed. Just make sure you amp the speakers, as they don't shine until you run some current through them.

I'd planned on keeping the factory Mach 460 amps. Will they do for the Kappas?

amps

It will work, but you will get no benefit. Just get a descent 4 channel amp and you will be much better off. As well, just rewaire everything with the new amp, and leave it like that. Just bypass those old amps as they are no where near as good as any half descent aftermarket amp. I have a jbl 4 channel, you could probably get it for $150ish on like ebay or a good deal and it is sweet.
