Help with leaky Hydroboost

My car has been slowly leaking power steering fluid for the past month or two, and the Ford dealer informed me that my Hydroboost unit is leaking and needs to be replaced at a cost of $775. Is this reasonable? Is there a cheaper source for the Hydroboost unit? Is it easy to replace by myself? Is this something that can be fixed if I pour Stop Leak or a similar product into the PS fluid reservoir?

Thanks for your help!

Damn! $775? That is harsh... The Haynes manual will tel you how to rebuild the thing. I suggest you spend $12 on a Haynes manual, read about it, and then decide if it is something you can do yourself.

yeah, i wouldnt drop 775 to let the dealer fix it. i have had a hydroboost problem THREE times in like a 6-8 month period. its fine now... but i was pissed every time it had to go back.... if you think you can do it yourself try and get brand new parts for cheap, maybe online and fix at home with a buddy. it might save you some serious $$$$

I'm not sure what this means....Do you have a contact person for parts or something?
Randy is out here on StangNet, and also runs a "Ford Parts" forum on Modular Depot - Modular Depot Ford Parts Forum
Randy works for Liberty Ford in MD and sells quite a bit of stuff to us good guys out here on the forums. He always get you his best price. You could either PM him here or post a thread over on www.ModularDepot.com to check for part, price, availability, etc. Ordering of the part is done by phone and his number is listed on his forum. :flag:
