Ford racing Cold Air Induction

No doubt whatsoever that at speed the air is cooler than at idle, but it is never as cool as the air outside of the engine compartment. Someone mentioned the radiator and the block as heat sources, I'll grab a hold of either of those before I grab the headers. And all the CAIs I've seen pull air from very close to them.

Looks like the Ford Racing CAI is the same one that RK Sport sells off their website in which they claim up to 20rwhp increase

http://rksport.com/product/p_18097550/view_detail

no real dyno numbers of course, and no mention of a tune. They're wanting $295 for the thing as opposed to Ford's $225. If it is the RK Sport design with a Ford Racing label slapped on then I don't think that the airbox is open to the engine compartment at all but instead has a couple of windows so you can see the air cleaner - rice factor of 6 on a 10 scale. Regardless, I have one on order that should be here next week. Will post pics when I get it installed.

Good eye! I think you are right.

Looking at the large image it appears that there are two openings, neither of which is gonna seal against the fender.

I have always wondered that too!

I see from the pic, that the air filter is fully open to the engine compartment. To me, that means it is sucking up the (very!) hot air from within the engine compartment. I mean air that is heated up from flowing through the radiator first, and gets heated even more by flowing past the engine block.

How in the world is that cold air induction?

 Exactly how is the filter "Fully open" to the engine compartment? Do you not see the Box that surrounds it!!, oh and the hole on the top of the box is covered by a see thru-plastic cover  . So the filter on that intake is exposed to about the same amount of hot eng bay air as the factory box. All I am trying to say is that FordRacing came up with this design for a reason, beleave me its is a functional CAI, but only when you are traveling fast enough to get more cool air flowing from the hole in the fender than the air that is flowing through or over the opening in the eng bay.

Actually, no. I don't see a box that surrounds it.

Looking at that pic, I can look through the top, passed the filter, and see right out the back of the "box".

That's what I was thinking, unless of course there's another plastic window on the rear opening too.

Please post the details when you get your unit. We'd all like to see the dyno results too. For now I dismiss the claims of 20hp gains, particularly when they say no retune is required. But I'll be happy to be proven wrong
:D

I think 20hp is BS myself as well. If it turns out to be anything like the K&N unit then any HP gains will be made at the top of the rpm scale when your torque is wasted. I plan on getting a bone stock run, one with the CAI on, and then oneafter a tune. Will post the results. Would love to see the HP gains right where the car is breaking out the most beef.

I don't get it! Yes there is an opening on the back side of the box but their is a Box surrounding the filter. Hey enough said, If you don't like the idea of a CAI that has an opening to the eng bay than wait and see what Volante comes up with. Volante usually makes a very good product that actually is more like a fucntional CAI, The filter is fully closed and draw's air from outside the car through the factory location.

But you forgot to mention how their fitment is always off by a couple inches. Volante= :notnice:
