I put an edelbrock rpm performer cam into my 74 302. I am using a edelbrock timing gear set as well. The cam directions called for me to replace the 2 piece eccentric with a 1 piece. I did this, but the dowels that came with the cam aren't long enough to come through the other end of the timing gear and through the eccentric. I haven't been able to find another dowel that would work. Has anyone else had this same problem? Thanks in advance.

only two different length dowels were used on 302's so any auto store should have what you need. usually both come with the cam install kit. just as a side note, i think the 74 302 had the retarded timing chain set so if you havent already now would be a good time to change it out.

I called edelbrock and talked with one of their service techs. He said to use the longer pin that came with the cam and just push it in enough so it is flush with the eccentric. He said the side tension would hold the dowel in place. I'm worried the dowel is going to work its way back through the timing gear and disable my fuel pump. Do you guys think this is a reasonable fix or should I go ahead and have a new dowel machined?
