K&N Affecting MAF

i just recently purchased a new K&N Filter and installed, and i've only driven it a couple miles, but i was searching the forums, and people have said they are pinging etc, and then they said once they cleaned the MAF it was fine. But they said the MAF was dirty because the Pro-Oiled K&N Filters oil got into the MAF and messed it up. Any experiences anybody, and any precautions i can take against this before i drive it any more?

Most often this can be a problem when people over oil their filter during a cleaning...new filter will not cause you any problems. If your worries take a compressor, hook up a blow gun and put some air to the filter..that will remove any excess oil from the pc without damaging the filter.

Ever-wise Derek is right. Furthermore this is a HUGE deal on SN95's. Do be REALLY careful about putting air through the cotton-gauze filter - I would use a TINY bit of air pressure. Or just do like I do and clean the MAF several hundred miles after oiling (in your case installing) the filter. Since you already drove it, the oil probably whipped onto the MAF anyhow (it might not cause any issues. I recently installed a FIPK on a mod motor and the filter did not have excess oil. We tend to over-oil them ourselves after cleaning). :)

If the MAF is cleaned it is a good idea to clean the IAT (it is right next to the MAF). Be sure to index the IAT afterwards.

Sorry for the recursive post. Good luck.

hrmm, IAT? please explain, i found a very well detailed tutorial for cleaning my MAF on this site, so if i need to i can do that, but what's an IAT, and how would i go about cleaning it? When i bought the car, i had a new MAF installed. How will i know if some of the K&N oil got into the MAF what negative effects will i be experiencing in my car?
Thank you very much for the help im real new at this.

Oil on the MAF wire insulates it from the incoming airflow. When this happens the computer need less voltage to keep it hot, which the computer interprets as less air entering the engine. As a resut it doesn't add enough fuel and the engine runs lean.

If you start pinging, the MAF, IAT and ECT are all the first things a 94-95 ownder should check. The puter for those cars ran too much timing and too little fuel stock - leaving little room before detonation. I would not clean the MAF, etc, unless you start pinging. But you can for peace of mind. Up to you.

The IAT takes 30 seconds to clean. You should see it screwed into the intake tube toward the Throttle body from the MAF. unplug and remove it. clean it like you clean your MAF. THen put a line (drawn on the IAT body) that is an extention of the 'posts' that hold the wire element. You want the wire to be across the flow of air, not shrouded by the 'posts'. The line will allow you to accomplish this as you screw the sensor in (obviously you cant see the wire once it starts to get screwed in). It is just like indexing plugs if you have done that.

I know that was not clear. I gotta run and tried to type it fast.
Good luck.

I was not aware this as being common with the SN's...you learn something new every day!!! Good information JT!! As for air to the filter..I like to lay the filter on few pieces of paper towel and as stated be careful with the pressure. I also like to give the filter a few good taps on the paper towel when done.

allright tyvm very much for the prompt responses, i will leave it in their, and if any problems occur i will know exactly what to do ;) i'll have more questions soon im sure, take cure you guys and ty for helping me.
