Some generic wiring items questions and other things not warrenting their own posts

Here's a few questions that don't warrent their own posts.

1) Anyone know where I can find a 2" rubber grommet for running wires though? something that I can cut the center out of, I need this because I had to cut a 2" hole in my firewall to fit some wires though for my 2.3T install.

2) Also, thoes factory plastic T shaped clips that are taped to the wiring harness then pressed through sheet metal to keep the wiring harness from flopping round, what are they called and where I can find them?

3) Can I get replacement pins for ford plugs? Right now I have some wires held together with solderless spade connectors which I despise, and I don't want to solder these wires together at this point incase I need to remove this harness. I was thinking of getting some plugs out at the junkyard and soldering them in but would like a more factory look with my wires pinned into the harness instead of just soldered to the old wires.

4) For the pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve, I don't have that and was thinking of using a high heat rubber one if I can, dunno yet. We have a really awesome hose shop in town that can make anything you can dream of. How must heat would this line need to withstand? Or does someone have one they'd let me have cheap?

5) Someone have a spare oil return line in good condition? Mine is all extended out and I can't seem to get it to fold back up. I might have the fittings removed and placed on a new line by my hose shop, but if someone has one for cheap I'd appreciat it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and help me avoid 5 different posts.

Let me see if I can be of some help here.

1. My first thought would be to hit the junk yards and look through different vehicles to see if they have a 2" grommet that could be used. McMaster-Carr sells rubber grommets, but I don't think they have anything that will fit a 2" hole. Try Grainger, or any of the industrial supply places.

2. I know the clips you're talking about, but I haven't seen them in any of the catalogs I deal with. Newark-In-One has cable clips that have a push clip end and allow you to run a zip tie through them. They may do the job if you can't find the other.

3. Take a clook at the factory plug. There's usually a manufacturer's name on the plug somewhere. AMP, Amphenol, Deutsch, or something like that. If its there, you can use that to find pins and sometimes even a tool to make pin removal easier.

4. I'd shy away from the rubber hose. The hose shop may still be able to help you. Show them the fittings at the manifold and the EGR. They may have or be able to get the hard line fittings to mate to them. Then all you'll need is some time, a tubing bender and some 1/2" steel tube (stainless would look cool) I haven't started my turbo project yet, but I did mess with installing a Ranger header on my '91. The EGR fittings were different and so were the tubes. I took both tubes and made what I needed out of them. The woven heat shield covers the weld and it looks stock.

5. Can't help you there.

I actually found a 2" grommet out at the junkyard today, I didn't know Lowe's would carry such things, I'll take a look tomorrow just to see.

The car's a 78 so no emissions are required since it's over 25 years. The reason I wanted the EGR was because I knnow that on my 5.0 the computer adjusts timing depending on whether or not it has the egr open or not. Also on the 5.0's the EGR isn't operational during wide-open throtle, I might be wrong but I'd assume that to be true on the 2.3 T's as well.

That aside, I found a pipe today anyways.

Yeah, here in Washington it's 25 years. I checked already with the DMV. Hell, this engine in there now is 100% better than the smoking 2.8 that was in there. I still want to keep it smog legal though. I'm even putting the smog stuff back on my 90 GT, I've been registering it at my parent's place since they don't have smog over there. I'm doing my best to follow the rules though. To be legal with the 78 I have to put in an engine of the same year or newer and retain all the original smog equipment.

I might be being a little anal about this, but unfortunatly I had a little run-in with the law a little while ago and don't want to take ANY chances. Hell, I even do the speed limit, and come to complete stops at all stop signs, I really piss people off, lol.

Must be in one of the 5 counties in WA that has testing, I registerd my Car up there one time, had WA plates on it for a little over a year and nither my car or me have ever been in WA...LOL :rlaugh:

But yea, if you dont need any testing, just block the EGR off, it'll gain ya that much more power, and a while lot easier.

Well, the EGR doesn't operate during idle or WOT only during part throtle crusing, that is if it's operating correctly. So you woan't be loosing any power where you need it, that and it helps reduce the vehicle's emissions. It just makes sence to leave it on and not be breaking the law and help reduce emissionsl.
