A friend of mine at work has one. it's got a new header, intake and exhaust i believe. i can find out his exact mods. i went for a ride in it and it felt slow. theyre only quick off the line right? I'd think with my mods once theyre in i can beat him after 3rd gear and easily from a roll? what do you guys think? im not sure if he can launch it yet either.

ehhh... i should be running that if not 13.0 with real good driving.
my friend was driving my car with just the x pipe and we were playing with an STi on the highway. dropped into 3rd at 65-ish but my friend didnt bring 3rd out all the way and we dropped back a car length but then he really floored 4th and we were its back bumper then we saw the state trooper pull out ha...

If he can't drive or is afraid to rip it.....yes.

If he can drive (Mods suggest so) no....and if your list of mods are still not on yet, HEYELL no.

Sorry....light car + turbo = bad news for V8 on street.

96-98 Cobras won't take an EVO. Those cars go 13.0 bone stock. AWD intercooled turbo. They are wicked fast. I saw a modified one run right next to an 03-04 Cobra (which had a pulley from hell, and exhaust) from a light to what looked to be like the end of the Cobras 3rd gear. This was 1 week before the Dream Cruise right on Woodward...everyone that didn't know what an EVO is, was scratching their head...it was pretty sick. Then he raced a Kenne Bell GTO, and they were right next to each other too....

damn, you really think i'd lose that bad? it'll barely be tenths faster and that's only from a dead stop. my car is getting the new rocker panel and door fixed and the mods should all be on within the next 2 weeks. guess we'll have to wait and see... i hope theyre not as quick as you guys are sayin cuz a lotta ppl at school have them.. i'm gonna keep believing in the cobra ha :flag: :flag: :flag: :D

I have a hard time believing that a pullied 03 had trouble even if on the street....the EVO's run out of steam....but if you saw it, that is good enough witness for me...

The thing is that these things are AWD and zip to 60 in no time flat....top end, you should catch him, but it may be after the 1/4, especially if you are stock geared...then again, you may not.

I know man, it broke my heart too, but it happened. He wasn't window to window with him, but....there was no space between the cars, the EVO's front bumper was at the Cobras rear wheel/door handle...and for the motor size in that little import, that is pretty even in my book. Yeah, that guy had some serious stuff done to that EVO. I didn't really enjoy watching that. But after all, it's still a 4-door grocery getter!!! :rlaugh:

That better be one heavily moddified evo. Best 1/4mile bone stock time I have seen is 13.3. I have personally raced 4 evo's on the street. All kills for me.

Get steep gearing, good tires, and learn to launch and drive and you'll be fine.

there ya gooo!!! someone agrees. you got the same mods as me. mine will all be in except the gears in another week or so.
my friend with the evo wont race yet he said. he came over yesterday. he said that it feels like it loses power after 5000 rpms and needs to get it looked at. he said he's only got 320hp and weighs 3100, where i will have 350-360hp, 4.10's and weigh 3400. so the race wont happen for a bit i suppose but now im more confident. :nice:

I have 4:30's on drags. Make sure you play around with tire pressure and try getting used to launching your car. On the street nothing drastic. Also my car weighed 3260 without me and 3460 with me. Is the weight you desribed actual weigh ins or just read up on. Also 350-360??? don't look at flywheel. My numbers are from the dyno. Dead stop should be fun. Get him from a rolll if a far greater advantage for you.

i almost got 4.30's when i was ordering... 4.10's got the higher top speed. i just thought that my car weighs 3400 by it self?? and he said his car is 3100. both not including driver?
what you think i'd dyno at and fly wheel power??

Top speed? I don't think you ever want to hit top speed. Most I've gone was 120mph. No need to go faster then that. By the way That was not racing and on highway 5 open road highway no other cars. My car weighed in 3260 with no weight reduction out hre on the scales.

Hard to speculate rwhp with any mods. Average for bone stock is 255-260. So maybe somewhere between 260-270 with just exaust?

What mods are in your car? I see a pending to be installed list there?

i just have the o/r X on right now. all the ones in the list will be on this week, except the gears which has to come a week later, gotta make an appt. for them.

So the cobra doesnt weigh much more than the evo?

and about goin fast.. ha with the 96, i made the needle go past 160 at 7400 rpms and it wanted to still go. had to been going around 180mph. now that was a rush. :D

I don't know what the evo weighs?

Kind pushing it arn't you?

Whatever floats your boat just don't kill yourself.

I owned an Import car shop for the last 7 years, and I would really warn you against racing these little cars. I know there is a red one that I built that runs in the 11.1-11.5 range and is totally stock on the exterior.

From my experience the evo is faster in the 1/4 mile than an sti. The sti falls on its face once it is in 3rd gear. I did reviews of both of these cars so I got to beat the living crap out of them for 2 weeks each.

These cars may be only 4 cylinders, but they make a ton of hp, and put it all into forward motion.

Good luck. I hope that you do win.

Here are my 1/4 mile times when I was driving the evo:
R/T---------------.829 (I fell asleep)
60'---------------1.863 ( hit the rev limiter)
330--------------5.504
1/8---------------8.549
mph--------------80.30
1000-------------11.183
1/4mile-----------13.392
mph-------------- 102.41

I wanted to make a few more passes, but was affraid that I would fry the clutch. I guarentee you that I could have gotten more out of this car. I believe that a 13.00 is possible in completely stock form. For the run listed above I used no Icing tricks, and it was in FL heat.

Unless your 96 had mid 500 RWHP or a 40 mph tail wind you can't go 180. Its all about aerodynamics and drag force. Our cars are not the most efficient in the aerodynamic area.
Drag force increases with the cube of the vehicle’s velocity. Every doubling of the vehicle velocity requires an eightfold increase in horsepower. Or, a doubling of horsepower only results in a velocity increase of 26%

I will use a C4 vette as example. Its a fairly aerodynamic car compaired to our cobras.
It takes 15 RWHP to keep it at 60 MPH on level ground. 120 RWHP to hold 120 MPH. 190 MPH would require 480 RWHP. In our cobras it takes 600+ RWHP to hit 200.

i have a 97cobra , 3.73's, some suspension, and drop in K&N...i raced an evo from a 35 roll and and was pulling him...we tried racing two more times, but traffic got heavy. I really wanted to race him from a dead stop to see how i'd hold up. I was really impressed with his car for it being bone stock. Alot more impressed than thesrt4's i've raced!!

With those mods...sorry pal, I have to call :bs:

96-98 Cobras won't pull that hard, especially past the fuel shutoff. :D

I've pulled on evo's much easier then sti's around town. No saying that sti's are the better vehicle but just my expereince.
