ridiculous MSRP markups???

hahaha i think anyone that paid even msrp got sooooo ripped off.

i paid $200 over INVOICE on my 05 GT that got run over by an F350

my second was $1265 under MSRP... (insurance company covered the difference so the car dealer wanted to make a little $$ since it was their last allocation)

All of you need to call Goode Motors in Burley Idaho. They rock my socks, and don't rip you off!!! talk to Jody Osterhout

CA is the problem; $10 k over is invoice is a joke. They probably want it for show until the end of the month. Come get one in GA & ship it back. I ordered 2 gt verts on x-plan w/ no real problem. I had to take a few no's, but it wasn't that hard. I didn't buy both, but dealership didn't care.

thanks for the responses guys, i really do appreciate it. i'll just keep shopping around and try and be as patient as possible

Believe it or not Galpin Motors doesn't do the Market Mark-up BS ...

They do reserve the right to equip the car as they want to and charge you for the add-ons.

But NO ONE has their selection and inventory. They have the highest allocation of Mustangs of any Ford Dealership anywhere.

Give them a shot :nice: , you might be pleasantly surprised.

Location, Location

Dealer pricing seems to really depend on where they are located. Metropolitan areas where the demand is high is where they are tacking on these crazy "premiums". Out here in the sticks (rural Virginia) the local dealer's lot is crammed with pickups that are in high demand and sell for premium prices. This dealer received their first GT back in December with a sticker of $26,600 and were advertising it in the local paper for $24,800!
It sat in the showroom for at least two weeks before selling. Seems most of the locals here prefer F-150's over the Mustang. I am waiting for the '06 and the 18 inch wheel package. The Shelby would be great but is a little beyond my price range. However if anyone has info on a Special edition (Mach 1 ,Boss) that Ford might release in the next year or two please let me know since I would definately go for that.
Like someone said, go to Vista Ford in Woodland Hills. They sell at MSRP, I actually wound up getting $200 under on my GT back in March. They don't have many GT's though, but I haven't driven by there in a while.
I just got back from there (they are having a Mustang Club Show there today)

anyway, they told me they will sell 2005 GT's @ - $100.00 of the factory sticker the price!!! NO BS ~

and 2005 V6's $600.00 over invoice!

Hmmm, I don't know that loading up every desirable car with big mark-up unwanted non-factory options is all that much better for the buyer than the "Market Correction" add-on. If people want to customize their car with pricy after market goodies, they usually want to pick them themselves.

And I would also try to avoid the "undercoating" if they try to sell you that. :D

Hate to bring this back up but i hadn't priced the 05s until yesterday when I took my Expedition in for the cruise control recall. I couldn't believe that they had a $7000 mark-up on the GTs not sure about the V6 because I didn't look but $42,000 for a GT vert is nuts.

... been a long time since i've last posted. i almost traded in my '01 GT for a new M3, but rightly changed my mind at the last minute :hail2:

so, yesterday i stopped in at my local Ford dealership (pasadena, CA) to see what they had on the lot. i asked the sales guy to show me to the GTs and he said they only have one. it was a black '06 convertible...

i asked what it's selling for and he tells me 43. i'm looking at the price tag and i see MSRP is around 32, so i say "you mean 32?" -- he says no, and points to another sticker that says $43,870. $10,000 over invoice!? i ask him if he's on crack and say for another 5 grand you can get a new S281, and he replies simply by saying "well you cant find the GTs anywhere, you just cant get them"

so i ask him what the coupes are going for and he says they are "only" marked up 6 grand over MSRP.

have i been out of the game for a while or is this guy spitting some serious BS. can't i customize my 'Stang on Ford, pay the destination charges, and pick it up at MSRP cost???

help! i'd love a new stang, but i'll be damned if i'm going to get raped in the process!

thanks!

Not surprised by the pasadena dealership.. that area is crowded with uninformed buyers that want their toys now.. If i were the dealer I do the same...

Fact is yes, you shoould be able to custom order a 'stang for MSRP, its just a matter of patience and if youd dont want one right now....

I bought a T-bird from Buerge Ford in Santa Monica.. seemed like a nice bunch... I don't recall a mark up on their stangs when I last serviced the bird. They are just west of the 405 on santa monica. Good luck and remember; caveat emptor!!!!!

Earlier this year...I believe March 10...I stopped by the service department @ Pasadena Ford to ask about a problem with my 05 Mustang, and while at the dealership I saw an 05 Mustang GT 'Vert on the lot with different wheels and tires on the car. When I looked at the sticker it said 'wheels and tires $4995' and 'dealer markup $10000' bringing the grand total to $48000.

A couple months ago I stopped by Pasadena Ford on my way home from work because I saw a GT sitting in the showroom and wanted to check it out, and while looking at the car I asked a salesman about the markups they had on the Mustangs and if people were paying their price and he said 'yes', and also told me that he sold the 'Vert I mentioned before for $48000.

Another thing about Pasadena Ford-
Last October/November I stopped by their dealership as I saw some Mustangs on the lot (mine was on order from Star Ford in Glendale on X-Plan), and while I was looking at the cars and the markups of $5000 a salesman came up to me and I told them I had a car on order from another dealer and he tried to tell me they would beat the other dealer's price until I mentioned X-Plan, then he walked away.
And before you go to Star Ford and ask about X-Plan on the Mustangs, the last I heard from my salesman is that they don't accept plans anymore on the Mustang, and that 'he took lots of heat from management for selling me my car at X-Plan.

You didn't really expect him to tell you that people were refusing to pay their ridicuous markups did you?

I'd bet that they are selling a lot of them w/o the full asking markup.

While I'm thinking about selling the 03 GT vert and buying a 06 GT vert, no way would I pay over sticker. If I can't get it at sticker or less, than I'll hold onto the 03.

You could be right in that he was lying when he told me that people pay the crazy markups on the Mustangs they sell. I do know of one person that admitted to me that he paid the $5000 when he bought his Mustang last October from Pasadena Ford (he asked what I paid for my car...which has more equipment then his...and his friend said 'you got screwed when you bought your car' <referring to his friend paying $5000 over MSRP).

Then someone from 'The Mustang Source' told us she bought her Mustang from Pasadena Ford, and that she refused to pay the markup and she got a better price but didn't say how much she saved.

I would think that the dealers ARE selling their Mustangs with high markups whether it's called 'market adjustment' or by adding on things like alarms, tire/wheel packages or dash kits because people 'have to have a 2005/2006 Mustang NOW whatever it costs' and the dealers know that.

The new Mustang has been on the market for exactly one year and lots of dealers are STILL adding markup on them...if people were refusing to pay the markups then I would think that the cars would be selling at MSRP or below and have incentives and rebates available on them by now.

There are Ford Dealers in So Cal who DO sell their GT's without the Mark-ups ....

you just have to shop around ~ :nice:

Not everone pays the same price for the exact same car. Forget the Mustang, think of cars that are in over supply a Taurus or a Camry. There are people who walk into a dealer and not only pay MSRP for them, but get swindled with dealer add on crap like paint sealer, fabric protector, VIN # etching, etc.

On the other hand there are people who buy those same cars for invoice and refuse to pay for any dealer add ons.

Same with the Mustang some people just buckle and pay dealer markups while others won't.

I'm in NJ and a few dealers still have markups on the windows of some GT's(~$3500) but when you talk to the salesmen they will sell the car for MSRP. The mark up is generally just there to try to sucker someone who doesn't know any better. So, it might be different in Cali but in NJ they are going for MSRP or less for v6s.
