Anyone heard of Evapo-rust?

Wow, it's been a long time since I've last posted...

Anyway, I have the LH floorpan in bad shape (severe corrosion) and knew that re-welding a new pan would eventually be in the future. Right now, it's solid enough with several hours of grinding and neutralizing what was left then fiberglassing the floor for strength (kind of a tempo fix, gets me by).

So, while digging around for rust removers, I came across this stuff:

Seems a guy sprayed this stuff on his '69 roadrunner and the rust just dripped off. I'm kinda skeptical, but is this stuff for real? I could forego the rewelding job and just spot weld the holes if I can. Either that or a thinner fabric for another fiberglass re-coat.

Never heard of that product - I just get a 1 quart bottle of "Right Stuff" from Advance Auto Parts for $7 - it is just like Ospho only cheaper and easier to get and I just put a Windex spray bottle head on the it and squirt away - works wonders - just don't let it get on concrete - it will eat it - it is Phosphoric acid. After all that dries I coat it with a silver industrial bridge paint you can get off the internet - it is tough as nails - I think it is PM Industries that sells it

Well, by the look of it, the stuff doesn't eat away at anything. It just seperates rust from bare metal. I'm not sure how it does it using molecules pulling the rust away, but having stuff that stops working after a certain amount of time yet safe to handle and even drip on yourself compared to stuff that eats away everything (including you), it seems like some good stuff to try.

The buick forums have given it a shot and seem to like the stuff and yeah I know it's over a couple of years old...

I'd sure love to, but it'll take 2 1/2 weeks for it to get here. I'm stuck stationed in the northernmost portion on the mainland of Japan for now. :(

I'm going home on leave in a couple of months for christmas and figured I could try to do some work on the car since it's been in storage so long. I hope the floorpan hasen't rusted out after only two years being in a garage with the fiberglass coat on it.

I could order some of this stuff and try it on my skyline I suppose......

I don't recognize the first pic, looks like near the POL gate or maybe near flag circle. The second pic is obviousely at the post office. I can make out the Bong Theater in the back. Behind that is the leagal office, BK and Popeyes, etc. My friend had a Skyline when I went to Edgren. I learned how to drive out there. I had a 66 Ford Laser with right hand drive. I miss Old Miyaki's, Vikings, Miss Vedol beach. Do they still have the drift sessions at the harbor in Hachinohe Thursdays? I was a lifeguard and pool manager at the Himberg and that stretch of beach. When I was there, a guy had a 66 conv. and another guy who drove a 69 Camaro. I had a contractor friend Mike Maruna that had a 70's Vette and a 93 Viper while we were there. You just didn't see those kind of cars out there. Anyway, I miss it.

Man, you were stuck out here at one time? You already know how slow things can get up in Misawa. Both pic's are in the dorm parking lot of 539. It's Popeye's in the background behind the car for the first shot.

I do have some sad news though. The old Forevers was torn down along with My Place. Both re-located, but the new forevers (forevers second) kinda sucks and it's a short walk to the new My Place, but it's twice as big. They're putting up a mall (a small one though) in the new spot. It should be three stories high.

The only two classics I see out here is a pair of old 67 impalas that are tucked away for the winter and rarely driven during the summer. The place primarily has 180SX's, Evo's, WRX's and Skylines all over. I'd rather get back to the states and fire up the 'ol Grande though. I miss the cam lope of a 5.8 compared to the drone of a 2.5  As for the drift sessions, Oh yeah, they're still going on. I've seen these guys slide all over the place. I'm gonna sell off the GTS-4 for an Evo real soon, but I like going 0-60. Count me out for grenading rear ends.

Yeah, I had a blast out there. I graduated from High School at Edgren back in 97. It really takes a big imagination to make that place fun. My best advice to anyone going there is get away from the base as much as possible. I had a few friends that were 1n3(AF) or CTI(Navy) when I was out there. I at least knew if I could become one I could end up out there. Unfortunately there aren't many slots for my job out there. My little sister was working out there at Flight Medicine last year. I never got out to visit though. If I were you I would have taken a classic out there. It would just make it that much nicer out there. Hope you're having fun with you Grande at home right now.

I flew into Misawa several times.

I was in VF-151 flying the F-4 Phantom in the mid-80s. We stayed in the BOQ and hung out at the O Club between flights. When KAL 007 was shot down in 1983, they set up a tent city for us at the end of the runway and we practically lived out there in the weeds while we were standing Alert 5 in support of the P-3s searching for wreckage of the 747.

There was a bombing range near there that we used and I got in trouble once for straying off my low-level route and went over some dairy farmer's barn at 500 knots and apparently scared the hell out of his cows. He claimed they wouldn't give milk and Uncle Sam had to pay him some Gomen money.

Sorry for the hijack.

I'll have to look into Evaporust.

A friend of mine that has a 1 man hot rod shop tried it recently and really likes the evaporust stuff. He had a fire at his shop > fire dept. water + days of rain so everything salvageable was rusty. He started soaking stuff and was amazed at how clean the parts came out;
"i just bought some & it works great! i soaked my handmade clutch pedal copy that was in the fire in nov. for a couple days & the part that was in the solution looks like new. i also soaked these carbide .45acp reloading dies (also in the fire & rusty) overnight & saved them. good as new."

I plan to pick some up to soak all my body bolts in as I'm getting tired of wirewheeling them by hand...

This will make you laugh but it works

Half white vinegar (cheap like $3 gallon) and distilled water ($1).

I just did this last week to some rusty scrap metal I am using as patch panels in my fenderwells, I soaked them for 4 days and they were spotless.

I also have evaporust on my shelf, but its $30 a gallon.
