Finally got around to having this simple little thing installed today. Just for reference, ive been running true duals with Flowmaster 40s and short resonators. The H-pipe seems to have made the sound a little deeper, but perhaps not as loud. Its not as raspy as it use to be, which is good imo, and the popping has been elimitated all-together. The car doesnt feel as rev-happy as I remember it being an hour ago, but it could be my imagination. I cant imagine the piece having that much affect on performance.

Ill get a new sound clip as soon as I can (will have to borrow a camera) and let you know if it happens just mellow out any, which I doubt it will.

Anyway, just keeping you updated as I go by the sotp and ears dyno.

H-pipes are said to be deeper than X-pipes, which provide a higher tone. Also, H-pipes are supposed to give more torque down low while losing top end power. However, X-pipes lose torque and gain high-end horsepower. I'll be going with an off-road H-pipe with my SLPs... hopefully it won't be too loud :nice:

Good Job Zodiac!! Thanks for keeping us updated on the H-PIPE progress.. you know we needed it..

Just remember, with my XPIPE, I show a gain in torque around 5000RPM of 216RWTQ.. This is up from stock, without a tune.. So if in doubt, you must get it dyno'd before you know for sure whats going on..

Stock is 204 RWTQ..

Also, you know how mine sounds, so the deep tone and idle is there with the XPIPE.. You can always change to the XPIPE if things get outta hand.. The facts regarding the H-PIPE, may not apply to our V6's, just 5.0's..

Your work is excellent, and shall be chalked up to research and developement for the betterment of the community.. Nothing lost, and knowledge gained.. For that, I personally thank you.. :nice:

This is an urban legand that just won't die.

As far as V8s go, given the firing order they have which fires the same cylinders consecutively on the same bank 2 times during a complete engine cycle, X pipes deliver both more torque and more HP across the entire RPM range than an HP pipe will.

In fact on dyno tests of 99-04 Mustang GTs, the highest peak HP was made by a MRT H pipe. But in an A-B dyno test between a MRT H and a Basanni X, the Basanni X had more low RPM torque and both more HP & TQ across the entire RPM range (area under the curve) than both the stock H and the MRT H.

As I tried to point out before in a different thread, V6s may act differently because every consecutive cylinder fire is on the opposite cyinder bank. Therefore there should be minimal differences in power between none, H and X pipes.

As a side note, a friend of mine has a 9 second drag car that runs a 377 CID Chevy. He has tried many exhaust systems on it. An X pipe system has consistantly given the best track times, better than open LT headers, pipes with no crossover and H pipes.
