AUX input SOLVED!

Looks like the device gives you RCA jacks. A standard cable used mostly for PC's will give you the RCA to mini-din jack converter. About $5 at your local Radio Shack, or 11 bucks on that site right below it. Most Satelite radio systems utilize RCA outputs so there wouldnt be anything additional needed, only for things like I-pods etc... It's too bad we would need to use something like this, but at least it exists...

well fella's ...bad news ...sort of. I recieved one of these already from discount car stereo and had it installed last week and...........nothing. I called them to send a replacement thinking the unit was defective right..............well its not...theres a glitch in it......jsut recieved the following email from discount car stereo

"We are in the process of notifying our Mustang customers of this issue and has temporarily remove the option from the product compatibility list.
Here are some issues we have addresses so far:

PIE Tech support department wants you to know---
"We are aware of a small glitch in this part when used in a *2005 Mustang. This glitch is not something PIE found during testing of this part before its release. The glitch has to do with the 16-pin aux-port of the radio being occupied. This connector houses 2-wires. This harness must be disconnected before the radio recognizes the FRD04-AUX interface; once the radio recognizes the interface this harness may be reconnected. Once the vehicle's ACC voltage is cycled or car sits for about 15-20 minutes. The radio will loose recognition of the part.

An immediate/temporary fix for this is to leave the factory 16-pin connector disconnected from the FRD04-AUX harness. This will allow the part to work with out any problems. However, the radio's dimming function will be permanently activated and the radio's speed sensing for volume compensation will deactivate.

This part is the first in the 12-volt industry. We took all the precautions necessary to avoid this from happening by field testing and confirming compatibility with every model listed. We even had 8 or 9 prototypes installed in different vehicles. Including a 2005 Mustang with the shaker 500 audio system. Here's a link to one of those 8 or 9 vehicles, (it happens to be the 2005 Mustang with the shaker 500) I'm sure you have seen it before.

We are investigating this issue and are working on being able to duplicate/pin point the where the problem is. Once we do that we can determine the intensity of he fix. At this moment there is no ETA for this fix...

Discount Car Stereo.com will be monitoring the situation and will update 2005 Mustang customers when a permanent fix is available. We apologize for the inconvenience
SOOOO....I am going to install the newone tomorrow using their temp fix and wait on the real fix to be completed.....OHHHH and by the way , the guys at discount are first rate...the best costomer service I have experienced in a VERY long time

Here is a link for the '06 Mustang Accessory Catalog. There is an item in it that allows you to hook up an MP3 player to the Shaker system. I believe you can also hook up a satellite radio to the plug as well. Will try to find out if this works with the '05's or not.

The post is about half way down the page for the PDF file. I tried to post the file here, but they limit the size for files posted.

no, its a very easy install. I went ahead and put mine in Knowing the problems ( no dimming and speed sensing vol) and I'll tell you this. I dont really miss the features that are not working but I will get the fix when it comes out BUT this thing made a HUGE difference between the FM modulation on my sirius satellite radio....its worth it to put it in now jsut for the sound knowing I'm going to ahve to take it apart again....LOL!!!

I agree with you 100%. Well, 90% anyway. The install was fairly painless, but since I had never dug into my dash, I took it slowly. The whole process took the better part of a day, but the good news is that I have become fairly proficient tearing it apart & putting it back together. Now that I know how everything fits & connects, it can all be done very quickly.

Regarding the functionality of the PIE unit, I am somewhat bummed that I have lost those two features on the radio, but not enough to not use the AUX device. As you have noted, the difference between FM modulation and direct connect is huge. My MP3 player and XM radio now sound magnificent, instead of a merely adequate noisy FM station. The FM modulator in my MP3 is still active and available, and just for comparison, I have switched back and forth to the direct connection, and the difference is stunning. Even if PIE won't fix the problem (which they have promised to do), I would gladly live without display dimming and speed sensing for the sound quality.

Anyone know anything about the Ford part? My dealer knows nothing, can find nothing using the base number. I also e-mailed a major Ford supplier who sells lots of accessories and got the same answer. The part is in the new accessory catalog. Anyone know anything about it???

I'd like to too. But my dealer can't provide any information. Can you provide any, such as the complete part number so my dealer can look it up, the price, what's involved with installation and will it work with an ipod as well as satellite radio?

I recently read on another Mustang forum of problems with this product, sorry I cant remember which one now.

It had to be stangnet, mustangworld, dfwstangs or bradbarnett.net

Several people were reporting problems where the device had to be periodically disconnected and reconnected.

Here is some documentation about the bug on their forums.
