Anyone having fueling issues?

:bang: My 05 has a build date of 01.31.05 and I have had problems trying to get the fuel nozzle to lock in and keep fueling. I have already had the car in once for the problem and supposedly it was resolved. It seemed to get better for a while, but again yesterday I spent almost 8 minutes trying to get just over 11 gallons in. I even got a comment from the CHP writing a report hoping I had no place to be soon. It is very frustrating and with the cost of fuel, I don't like the added hassle of just trying to get gas in the car.

Enjoy and drive happy!

Yep.. I had the TSB completed and the tank replaced, it has started to happen again, so I just flip the gas nozzle upside down while filling and it works fine. Not the best of solutions, but it works none-the-less.

The dealer has been great and is ordering the tank now. Guess it must be a problem. call and the parts are ordered, no questions asked.

If the pumps are bad, there must be a lot of them. Only have 1 or 2 pumps in my area so far that work. All are the same company, but I don't know of anyone having same problem...Tipping nozzle upside down may work, but not what I want to do to fuel a new car. :hail2:

gldelox13, i was under the impression you already had the tank replaced. Yes its a common problem. after myt ank was replaced i havent had any problems though. Jenn on the other hand still has. Which i found odd, maybe they didnt do the isntall right, or replaced it witht he same old tank? (man wouldnt that suck)

Not sure Faz... It usually does fine, but if I let the tank get nearly empty and then try to fill, it will not let me use the auto toggle switch on the nozzle. It pops it off and trying to manually hold it upright pops the vapor shutoff on the nozzle too. It has only occurred twice and I am more inclined to believe that it is a vapor issue with the tank inlet and the nozzle Evap sensors then my tank.

I do know that my tank inlet is pretty sloppy. Moves around quite a but. Again, I am not real worried. I have a few more year on warrenty if something goes horribly wrong with it. :D

I made sure I got the max warranty available. Figure I'll keep letting them work it until whatever is fixed. Free rental comes with the service (hard to drive a Focus though). Previous fix was just the hose and recepticle (mine moves a lot also), this was done when they went thru the front end parts for the popping noise. This is typical of cars built before Feb 1...I missed by a day, go figure.

Even with the little problems, I love the car. Intend on no mods, stock for me..it has more than enough after driving Honda 4 & 6 cyl cars. I saw parts of the pony package, didnt look for price. Already have the stripes (not so sure about the light bar for the grill, looks like 65-66 to me) but do like the emblems. Still open the garage door just to look...sure a pretty car :)

God Bless America :flag:

I experienced this on my first fill up and after investigating the fuel system and it seems as tho there is more than 2 foot of rubber tubing only 1 inch big around that the gas has to pass thru to get to the gas tanks(2) under the rear seats. So I fill up slowly haven't had no trouble since.
As for the miles,I'm racking em up fast.
Lots a fun to drive :D

Faz.. I already had the TSB done. If it continues to be a problem at all stations like before I had the TSB performed then I will take it back. I NEVER let the gas tank fill light come on. With gas prices the way they have been and the short term waiver and reduction in the refining requirements I opted to let the tank nearly empty and then add a bottle of Techron and fill er' up. The fill hesitation in mine has only occured twice since the TSB was done and both times the tank has been near empty.

I would give a good bet that it is the vapor release from the inlet neck that is tripping the EVAP sensors on the filler nozzle. Turning the nozzle upside down or pulling a "motorcyle" fill technique by-passes most of the nozzle sensors.

If this was a problem that I really felt was attributable to the tank or inlet neck design, I would take it back in. :nice:

Anyone who has NOT had the TSB done and is having problems, should get it performed. Agreed.

P.S. DANG FAZ - 17,000 Mi in 5 months. I have had mine since 11/29/04 and have 6,700 miles. LOL

After a little Desktop Publishing and Redesign on the Exploded View Docs you provided me Tom, I was able to upload these images as JPGs to (errrrrrrrr) Brad's site.

Thanks to Tom (afixer) here are images of the saddle back design of the 05s fueld tanks. This will give all of us a solid picture of what the design looks like and where the problem areas may be. Thanks Tom, you are a valuable wealth of resources and true Stang buddy! :nice:

Edit Add: The first exploded view of the tanks is a tad small. If you have photo manipulation software like Photo Editor or Studio, you can pull a "Save as" on the JPG and then zoom the image in your editor to see it a little more clear. Anyone that wants the PDF file can always email me or afixer for it. (Right Tom? :D )

I had this issue only once when I was travelling and used a gas station that i dont use. The only thing different about that compared to some of the other gas stations was that this one had one of those pumps where after picking up the nozzle i had to lift up a level to engage it. All other pumps I have used have been the automatic ones without any handles to lift. No issues with those. Any thoughts if this could be a reason?
