Are mustangs not selling very well right now? I know at the local dealership they've had about 12-15 sitting on their lot for about 3-4 weeks now. Most are 05's, converts and such, but there are a few 06's. The exact same ones, all there, everyday. I haven't checked the stickers on them, so maybe they're jacking up the price, but it just seems odd to not be selling any of them.

Big motivational problem right now is gas prices. The average person that sees a new Mustang, either V6 or V8, thinks "race car" or "performance car" and that to them equals bad gas mileage. People don't believe me when I tell them that I average 23-24 MPG in my GT (driving like my grandma, anyway 
).

As I posted on another thread, Mustang sales have been sliding the last 3 months. Although April & May Mustang sales were the best in the last 20 years, June, July & Aug sales were below the monthly production rate.
Around me the situation is the same. There are V6 Mustangs stacked up on dealer lots, especially verts.
GTs are still pretty rare around here. Most dealers do not have any GTs on their lots. One dealer had an 05 GT vert on his lot for a few weeks before it was sold. Another just got in 2 - 06 GT coupes.
Also as I said before, Ford screwed up on the V6 - V8 build mix. Ford started out building the same % V6s as they had been selling over the last 5 years. But they forgot that for the last 5 years many V6 sales were to fleet / rental customers, but with the 05 came out Ford cut the # of Mustangs that they sold to fleet / rental customers.. The retail sales mix is much higher for V8s.

I think if you buy a stang gt,gas prices should be no concern.......
I just don't like the way the V6s look maybe its me,and the pony package looks pretty bad but then again it still could be me lol.JohnnyT

Ford needs to re-think their unit allocations
Make More GT's, V6 Ponies and how about another SVT model?
I've heard rumors that they are considering a BOSS Mustang
Retro'd with a Shaker Hood and the 5.4 engine

Maybe another reason why many GTs and V6s and still sitting on the lot is because a lot of people who want one, already ordered their's from the dealer and are still waiting and waiting and waiting.. (like me, going on 2 1/2 months and I know it's not long compared to others but still long time with no car)

IMO Ford screwed up by producing a V6 model. What is the necessity of a car with less horsepower, a girly sound, and a sissy look when you can have what you want for a few thousand bucks extra. Really and truly, who went to the lot going "whoa i can't wait to get one of those new V6 mustangs!!!!" I know i didn't!!! Produce the right car at the right price and demand will increase. WTF come on Ford. Of course it does make my GT more valuable for resale. Just a thought. 
I went to my local dealer web site and called them and now they have one '06 V8 Vert with Auto. I asked a stupid question to the sells person on the phone, why not get the V8s ordered with manual and base sticker. His answer was the usual sells person who does not know anything about the performance market. People want the Vert and Auto and then I asked how come then they have 15 of them on the lot and they have been on the lot since June but the Saleen they had at $48k lasted only 2 days. Silence, I always get Silence. lol
I talked to my dealer yesterday and he said ford cannot make the GT's fast enough. He also said the automatics are easier to get. Basically if your looking for a auto V6 or V8 your in luck. And that dealer allocation is stupid. It should be first come first serve no matter where you live. Not good for buisness when they cant even keep up with demand. Let's load up the lots with V6 autos when most of the demand is V8 manual. I assume that is the way they think. In 05 they couldnt fill all there orders and now in 06 it looks like the same scenario. I wont keep my hopes up. I ordered in June and propably wont get til june 2006.

If your lucky if yea get it by then.....
if you are paying sticker i would cancel your order and look somewhere else and i am sure you can get what you want if you look a bit.But if you are at X-Plan you should stick with your dealer and hope he gets you the car you want....
I wanted Manual (But got auto instead}
I wanted Black[but got silver instead}
wanted shacker500 (but got shacker1000 instead)
got all the upgrades that i wanted.....
Am I happy,,,Yes I am. think silver is nice and the Auto is nice(manual would be nicer I would think}
But by getting the car at Invoice and saved $2500 i am very happy.....
I always bought cars from the lots and never ordered one(this was my first and last}
So shop around and i am sure you might not get the color you want but i am sure you will get everything else that you are asking for.....JohnnyT

I know what you mean, I thought about that option but im getting mine on the x-plan so i think i will stick it out for now. where i am from, you basically have to park you car as of nov 1st because of the road salt. What's probably going to happen is during the winter i will have to get it brought to my garage with a flatbed truck. After that i will sit in it and think of the summer ahead. I look at it now as a very nice christmas gift to myself.

Try leaving putting your male machoism aside for a few seconds.
Simple fact, without the V6 Mustang there would not be a V8 Mustang today as Ford would have discontinued the Mustang years ago.
Over the last 10 years V6 sales have been 68% and V8s 32%.
In an ideal world, yes I'd like for there to be only V8 Mustangs as it would make the Mustang have more prestige and be more exclusive. However that is not a reasonable expectation given the nature of the auto business.
