got ticketed today for 58 in a 40. The look the cop gave me today was like "i've been waiting to pull you of you guys over". Anyone else feel like they've been some what targeted in their 05 stangs? Anyone had any excuses that actually worked to get out of the ticket? Thought we could all use a good excuse for the next time!

I have to agree with betterdan on that one. Usually the cops reserve the "Stop you for usless bulls**t just to see your car" on Vipers and the like. (Who the hell wouldn't pull over those beautiful machines) Although I'm sure he enjoyed looking at the stang. :nice:

Too bad you got nailed. Let this be a lesson to you in ticket prevention - you NEED to protect yourself. I posted a thread on ticket prevention awhile back. You could benefit from the information in that thread, so I rwill repost it here. Please read this thoroughly if you are serious about avoiding speeding tickets.

After reading the myraid of threads with people being rammed by the State for speeding, I thought I'd post a thread for anyone interested in fighting fire with FIRE! In this thread, I've included steps you need to take to PREVENT a cop from ever having a chance to clock you. I've also included honest ticket prevention links that took me weeks to find after dredging through the thousands of commercially biased sites. I think everyone who enjoys their '05 and doesn't want to pay THOUSANDS of dollars for a momentary twitch of the accelerator should take these four steps to greatly minimize your chances of getting ticketed:

1. Get a GOOD radar detector. I recommend the Esocrt Passport 8500 X50 or the Valentine 1.

2. Get a GOOD laser jammer. A laser detector is USELESS. Once your detector goes off, YOU'VE BEEN CLOCKED. I recommend the Blinder Extreme, although even MORE effective jammers may be coming out very soon, such as Antilaser.

3. Purchase PROVEN laser countermeasures such as VEIL (applied to your headlights), and for those of us with front license plates, Lasershield. With a good laser jammer and these laser countermeasures, laser guns are useless against you unless you're 300 feet from the cop! (they usually clock you at 2800 feet)

4. BE VIGILANT! If you're speeding safely, check your mirrors periodically. Remember, there is no defense against VASCAR (average your speed between two points of reference) except for purchasing a scanner!

I've followed these four steps and I have a perfect record. I've gotten lots of dirty looks from cops, though. :D

I've had an Escort 8500 in my 2001 Cobra, and now my 2002 Z28 for 4 combined years. I've not gotten a single ticket, although I deserved a few.

Even though a good radar detector is expensive, it is well worth it IMHO. It won't save you from everything, but it will provide some protection. Being vigilant while driving is also important, with or without a detector.

Sorry about your frustration. But being alert is everything, detector or not. I've actaully been driving the past few weeks without just fine. I did once get pulled over, but that was because of my own stupidity. I decided to pull out of a wedding and do a burnout, the guy I pulled in front of as I'm doing my smoke show. A cop, and not a Detroit cop either. He pulled me over, admired the car and I could tell by his voice he felt sorry, he warned me about how the car alone brings enough attention to myself, I don't need to do anything more to get his attention. He let me go, but I think he also knew who I was too.

I know a lot of cops.

I've been pulled over a few times.

I know a lot of other people that have been pulled over a few times.

None of us got a ticket for the speed we were REALLY going... Instead - the copper knocked 5-10mph off the ticket just to prove that he wasn't being a dick...

So... 18mph over the limit on the ticket eh... How fast were you REALLY going????

BTW - I just noticed you are in Big-D... I lived there many years.. Point in fact - the last ticket I got was in Big-D. The state of TX has a pretty neat program they will usually let you take - it's called something like Driver Improvement. It's a 1 day (yes 8 hours) class that you sit through and watch movies, class discussion etc. When it's all done, you are out of your ticket PLUS you get a 10% reduction (mandatory from the State Insurance Commissioners Office) on your insurance premiums for the next 3 years...

That ticket might very well save your life and a lot of money...

Not much love in admitting you broke the law huh! Damn! LOL!! But yes I hear ya.. I'll give you back what you wanted to hear..

Man, its not right.. The car is capable of going 150MPH+.. So you were going 58 in a 40! You could have been easily doing 120MPH! Afterall, you could!... Why didnt he just give you a break? He should have if you ask me.. You didnt deserve it! LOL!!

One more then I'll stop....

Also, he's lucky you even pulled over! Its not like if you had of punched it, down onto the freeway he could've caught you.. I think you have alot of reasons to have not gotten that ticket..

1. You pulled over, and didnt start a high pursuit.

2. You Could have gone 110MPH over the speed limit, but didnt.. Which shows you have some type of restraint..

3. You have a GT.. Under this circumstance, you guys think you rule everything.. LOL!! Just kidding!!

Sorry you had bad luck.. Just razzin ya! :nice:

I had one of my employees in the car with me today and the cop was standing on a corner with his ride parked on the back side of a lot. The employee says, "man you don't have a plate on the front and one of those broken view covers on the back plate for the tollway stuff, he never would have been able to make it to his car 100 yards away and still been able to get you" but i took the responsibility and pulled over. Mainly because he was standing in front of me in the middle of the rode, but dang it sure sucked. And to answer your question, i really couldn't tell you how fast i was going, i travel that same route every day for the last 2 years and never seen JOHNNY LAW there, but usually travel around 65-70. you're right, Big D cops got a chip on their shoulder IMO.

I'll tell you alittle secret!

Buy a hat that has a famous Donut shop around town.. Serious.. Lets take Crispy Cream... Set it on the dash board.. When he walks over to the car, before he gets there put it on...

When he gets to the car say this... "Hello officer!! Sorry I'm in a hurry, but I have a big meeting this morning at Corporate"! He will glance at your hat, by this time.. Next you say... "I apologize, was I going alittle too fast Sir?" He will respond with yes.. You say..."I'll tell you what, do you make it into town often?"...He will say yes.. You say" Well whenever your around Crispy Cream Donuts, stop in for coffee or Donuts on me.. Whats your badge number, so I can put it in the drawer?.. He will say ...blah..blah..blah.. And finish up by saying slow it down!...

This will work, as long as you take a different route for about the next 2 weeks.. Once he finds out you lied about the Donuts, your dead meat!! :D :nice:

Sheriff's department around here targets our road because the usual speed is 70 in a 55 no matter what time of day it is or how old the drivers are. Taking my son to football practice this afternoon, we saw a local deputy had pulled someone over. Even though I have had a radar detector since getting my license over 25 years ago, I always slow down when I see someone pulled over. About the time we approached them, the deputy had finished writing his ticket and was about to pull out when he pulled the trigger on his radar. I already had set the cruise at 55 so when my detector went crazy, it was no big deal. The deputy then turned around and followed us for a few miles matching our speed. We proceeded to practice with little fanfare. Even if you don't have a detector (and I highly recommend one) use a little common sense when you do see a cop pulled over and slow down.

I got a ticket in my '05 driving it home from the dealership, lol. Was on the interstate doing close to 100 (the one and only time I decided to open it up), passed a speedtrap, and on came the gumballs. The cop was still cool though. First thing he asked me; "are you test driving it or did you just buy it?". I said "just bought it." He said, "well it works". That was kinda funny. Ended up getting a ticket for going 91 in a 70, but he was cutting me a break..think I was doing about 98 when he popped me. This was out in the middle of nowhere, in very light traffic, daylight, clear, etc etc. I deserved the ticket but was glad for the break. Cost $200. I should have pulled out the owners manual and pointed to the sentence "during break-in, drive the vehicle at a variety of speeds" :D

LOL!! That probably would have been all you needed to escape the entire ticket.. You could have also asked him if he would like to try it.. You will watch his car for him.. LOL! :rlaugh:

Be careful. Im pretty sure that in most states if your doing 25+ over you can be arrested for reckless driving. a $75 dollar ticket is one thing, but speeding a lil aint worth jail IMO.
Andi dont feel targeted for my GT so much as i stand out, you can spot it a mile away. Lets face it, our cars draw a lot of attention, not always in a good way either.

title depicts a story heard yesterday, coming out of a car wash too fast... :rlaugh:

I dont feel targeted.. 2 or 3 times I was accelerating briskly to the speed limit, (not burning rubber though) only to see a cop I didnt see at first.. they could have pounced on me. Esp with my lack of a front license plate. Had another cop behind me for a few blocks, thought I might get pulled over cause my rear license plate cover hides the word Texas, but they didnt bother me.
