Anyone else have a quick daily driver?

I'm in college so i don't have a daily, but when i go home my mother's car is basically mine since she drives around with her boyfriend. Its not fast or anything but its a 2003 VW Passat 1.8T 5 speed. I convinced her to get some Falken Ziex's so its pretty fun with those tires up in the mtns with the 5 speed and the turbo spools up suprisingly loud. Fun car. I've topped it out at 142mph.

Your kidding me, you got a headed and cammed 5.0 with and eddy intake and your saying that your GTP with a pulley upgrade for more boost will put you faster than the gt. You must be kidding me I have raced 2 GTP's and beat both of them. Sure you can get a pulley and put them close to 300 but they don't produce the torque. I even racede a grand prix that had a gtp motor put in it when the blew up his stock 3800. He has the SLP intake ( i believe that who's it was) a full exhaust and a pulley upgrade. He ran a 9.2 at the track and the car dynoe'd at like 290's well. I still beat him with just gears (3.55's) and flows with a 9.1
Not knocking the cars cause they will do some damage at interstate speeds and handle really well.
What would have been fun would have been a S/C 3.8 in a grand am less weight now that would be fun pushiung like 10psi muahahahaha.

A customers car went 12.3 with a pulley upgrade, cam, headers and exhaust!! The cam was a complete pita to install. Car was an auto too. Oh yeahm it had a converter too.

All the GTP's are auto, and most of them are on their second, or third, or fourth tranny.

Weird, mine is a 1999 with 70k miles, and every component is stock from the factory (except tires, brake pads, oil/air filter, etc.).

My 94 mustang is my summer daily driver, probably good for a high 14 in the quarter, so not quick but respectible... In the winter my DD is a 2003 Dodge Dakota 4wd club cab v-8 with the 5-speed and 3.93 gears. So again not overly quick but respectible. I'll be putting cams in the dakota in a few weeks so that will help with low RPM grunt...

My one buddy has a Taurus SHO for his DD. He paid 500 bucks for it and it chirps thrid. Its soo beat and ready to die its funny. But it will smoke almost every car we line up to, and thats with 4 people in the car. It also has 170k miles on it!

What year/color is it? My cousin got rid of his about a year ago and that sounds kinda like it. :D

Here's a post from a GTP forum...

"I'm getting a GTP here soon, and was wondering what was needed to achieve consistent mid-13 second daily driver...

my current list are as follows:

hulkspeed PEM's, jimmy c v2.5 DP, QTEC exhaust cutout, 2.5" summit glass pack for resonator, whizair, poly mounts, DHP PT(of course), and ZZP MPS(not sure what pullies to get), AND a ZZP tranny rebuild when needed.

thanks guys, hope to hear some good suggestions, Cates."

It is basically a given that if you want to drive a GTP hard consistently, you WILL destroy the tranny. It is the weakest link on the car, and there is no way around it. I have been around a lot of them when I had my 3.8SC XR7 (Cougar version of Supercoupe), and I would always read on their forums just to keep up with them a little bit. If you just cruise around mostly, hopefully it will go past 100k, but I have seen them crap with less than 15k on the clock, and just a pulley for mods. I wasn't trying to knock your car. They are nice, and I love the option packages with the HUD.

my dd (actually only vehicle right now soon to change hopefully with addition of 99 gt :D) is a 79 f 150 4x4 w/ 410 , 600 edelbrock, edlebrock intake, cam, dual exhaust and hankook dynamic m/t's. its pretty fast considering its a big heavy truck. Goes through mud and snow great too :D

wow, I thought there would be alot more daily driven mustangs.

Anyways back to the thread topic, I daily drive my 94 GT with a 351w and a crap load of mods all over. Havent gotten a chance to take it to the track yet but Im hoping high 11's. (still gotta get it dyno tuned, too bad Im all out of money).

This car is daily driven, sun, rain, and snow. Driving any other kinda car is just plain....boring.

No offense taken. I like the car for what it is. But what it isn't is a real performance car. That's why I needed to get a rear drive, V8 car with a 5 speed.

I guess I have heard that the tranny is a weak link. But I know a few GTX's running around without issues yet (and anyone who drops the cash on a GTX is gonna pummel the crap out of it on a daily basis). And at least mine seems to be holding up with no signs of decline yet.
