So what do you preffer and why? Right now we have cable and internet but we pay $90 a month with the two! :nonono: The new house we will move into have a satellite dish but no box and I'm wondering if I should switch.
I have a friend that use to get free satellite and he would get all the channels for free. He had his dad(he is a member of a hacking dish site) burn a card for him about once a month, but now he said they did something and he has to pay for now.
Do you guys know anything about this?

So what should I do? Thanks.

Yeah, my dad used to do that too, but the cards that you were able to re-write the memory on all got disabled, and now they are using a new card ?A4? that cannot be re-written, so you have to pay. There is no way around it anymore at least not for DirectTV.

Yea i have a friend that did that.

I hate satellite. EVERYTIME it gets a LITTLE cloudy...there goes the signal. I pay $70 a month for digital cable plus hbo and stars with cable internet. I prefer digital cable but neither one is "great" IMO :(

We have direct tv and love it, We have had some preaty heavy rains and the only time we lost sig. was when the power went out and it had to re-start. We have had a bit of pixelation(sp?) though. We pay 49-50$ a mo. for everything except HBO, cine., Show., and the movie channels (we have ALOT of DVD's)

We got the Tivo and that sucker is the most must have thing ever :D . We paid 75$ extra for the Tivo. We got a rebate for 50$ and I saw another rebate on the invoice so I sent it in. Ended up direct paid 25$ to the first bill (the reg. install and hookup was free, the 75 was the total price for the upgrade install and Tivo).

I have internet threw our phone co. SBC and it costs me 14.95$ extra, our phone bill is 49.95 total a mo.

So for our phone, DSL, and sat. we pay 99$ Not too bad for all three.

I have a really high speed connection, and digital cable. I also get the Motorola MOXI DVR Broadband Media Center. I pay $78 per month. I love being able to fast forward & rewind things on TV!

i got roadrunner and spliced the wire, so free cable! even though it weakens the internet signal at times, you get both for only $30 for the first 3 months, then $55 after.

How about a how-to, lol. That's sounds like a good idea .... afterall, cable companies are making a killing off of everyone.

it's quite simple, gents. what you do is call your cable company and cancel your subscription, then the next day, call roadrunner--they've got that "3 months for $29.95"--and have them install it. then take the wire that goes into the cable modem and use a cable splicer (picked one up at wal-mart for $4--it's a little t-shaped box that has one "in" and two "outs") to splice one "out" to the cable modem and the other "out" to the tv. it should look like so:

cable wire from the wall jack > splicer "in" > "out1" to cable modem & "out2" to tv

as you can see, it's really quite simple. in essence, all you're paying is $29.95 for cable (with HBO+Skinemax!) and broadband (roadrunner) internet! lemme know if you you guys need any more help... perhaps i can show off my MS Paint skills, hehe.

After having Dish Network, then DirecTV, we finally settled on Comcast. The HD/DVR offered is far superior to the satellite companies. To be a little more technical, only the new cable standard can support HDTV without compressing/uncompressing the signal.

Can you get Hi deff Signal on Satellite TV ?

I know you do w/ cable, if you cant w/ satellite then Cable all the way :nice:

You can't get local HD channels via satellite unless you have some sort of waiver, which I believe is a pain to get. But DTV is suppose to roll out HD locals in 12 of its larger markets. Check DTV website for those markets. Peace
