About to buy 13" BRAKES...OPINIONS PLEASE!!! (SSBC vs COBRA brakes)

The bear 13" rear brake upgrade is junk. Its noisy and Bear actually did a silent recall at first, but so many people were buying the kit that they stopped the recall. It is really worht your money to just get the bear 12" rear brake uprgrade kit as piictured on the first page

60-0 @ 126ft stock gt brakes
60-0 @ 112ft cobra/bullit brakes

Bigger is better!

The big difference is repeated stops. Do a 2nd or 3rd stop and you would notice the distances between the GT brakes and Cobra brakes increase with each sucessive stop.

man do listen to anyone who says that brakes are a waste of time they do now what the hell they are talking about. i have the cobra brakes and i love them they help out so much 110% better than the stock ones. and where are you getting these prices 750 or so is way to much i payed 499 for the whole kit, fronts.

Personally I would if you're going to get Cobra front brakes, get Cobra rears. Your rear brakes hardly do anything. I don't think getting Bears in the back is worth it.

Overall I would try to match whatever you do in the front with whatever you do in the back. (Cobra - Cobra or Bear - Bear, etc.)
I agree with this. I did the Baer 13"track - 12"touring. I wanted a matching set(for appearance & performance). You will stop better with larger brakes. The Baers were expensive..negatives are the parking brake does not hold(with Baer rear rotors & calipers). Another thing to consider is your spare will not fit. You will need a Cobra Spare. Anyway,do it right...buy a quality set. It's a good mod. I did a couple of 1/4 mile runs and the Stang stops like a champ at a 100+. Also great for highway driving...and appealing at car shows.Do your research & good luck.

I got my Baer color matched kit for $700 shipped. The stock brakes are no match for the stopping power the PBR's offer, especially with a nice brake pad, and s/s lines.

99 and up gt's have PBR calipures.

also some of these kits come with differnet pads and lines that can make a difference on stopping distance as well.

I would get the front 13" discs, but I would skip the rears unless you want looks. Approx. 70% of the braking power is from the front brakes. Therefore, the front brake upgrade is about all you really need for daily driver performance. I bought a used set of front OEM Cobra brakes and they work great, definitely better than stock. I am leaving the rear brakes alone since I don't want to mess with the axles or E-brake. However, those slotted and drilled rotors with powder-coated calipers do look nice.

nevermind, didnt realize this was a 5 month old thread. i was about to ask kilgore why he was all butt-sore. then i realized he posted that back in april when he was always teh firestarta.

If all you're looking for is better braking for the best $$ value go with the Cobra fronts (all you need is the calipers, pads, ss lines and disks, I think I paid less than $400 for these including shipping). I did that and just had new stock rears done at the same time and car brakes way better. And if you are or will be running big power (I'm well over 500 rwhp), you're gonna need the bigger brakes if you run on the street, or track for that matter.

Where did you purchase your brakes for 400 bucks?
