Stereo Question

I am (finally) ready to put the money down on a new '06 Mustang GT, but am still undecided on which stereo option to choose. I heard the Shaker 1000 and it sounded great, but ... I keep hearing people complaining about the CD player skipping all the time. I have seen this in multiple posts.

So my question is, how often does it really skip?? Is it just when going over bumps or rough pavement, or does it just skip for no good reason??? Are we talking about once an hour, every five minutes, or just when you hit a pothole??? Does the Shaker 500 also skip or is it just the Shaker 1000???

Last question is, if I decide to go with one of the cheaper stereos to avoid the skipping issues, how easy would it be to put in a good aftermarket stereo later?? I ask this because the one I saw was a very large square in the dash, so if you took that out it would leave a big square hole!!! Most aftermarket stereos I have seen would not fill that hole so some kind of plate would be needed to block up the extra space.

Any comments from Shaker 1000 owners would be greatly appreciated, I really liked the sound but I would get real annoyed fast if it skips every two minutes. I do a lot of highway driving and not that many potholes around here if that is the issue.

Thanks.

I got the base CD player with my '06 and have no complaints with store bought or burned CDs. Save the money you would use to buy the "skipper"........I mean "Shaker " and get you a CAI and Xcal2.

Thanks for the opinions, but that does not answer my original questions.

1) How often, and under what conditions does the Shaker 1000 skip?

2) If I do as you suggest and get a cheaper stereo and do an aftermarket upgrade, how do I deal with the large square hole in the dash and a smaller new head unit?

Thanks again for the input.

Craig

I have the Shaker 1000 in my 05 (built Nov. 04) and had problems with it skipping. I took it back for warranty under TSB 05-6-9 and the head unit was replaced. I've had no further problems since. I will say I've never tried mp3's so I can't verify for them but cd's now are ok.

You need to buy a mounting a kit for the new stereo, since its gonna go from a double DIN to single DIN,it has a lower pocket for EQ,CD's or whatever. For the price of a Shaker 1000,you could get a lot better,I heard it and wasnt impressed for what it cost.

There are some companys that offer double din units, pioneer and eclipse for example. They are kind of pricey but they offer touch screen functions and navigation. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.

Shaker

I have an '06 with the Shaker 500. I don't have any complaints, no skipping and I think it sounds great. The nice think about a factory stereo is it is covered under the vehicle warranty. Just my $.02 worth.

The Shaker 500 and 1000 have the same head units. I have the 500 and experienced skipping whenever I listened to home-burned CD's. Road conditions didn't seem to matter because it would skip sitting still. Skip, speed up (that was really funny), and seemed to reverse back on the track that was playing. Read these boards, heard the same stories. Bought some store-bought CD's and haven't had a problem since. Haven't burned any different CD's to see if it the ones I had originally were the problem but they've worked fine in my other vehicles. The double DIN size does give you a lot more options if you choose to go aftermarket. Just a question of money.

Thanks for all the help guys. I feel a little better about the skipping problems now. I will be using mostly store bought CD's, not home burnt ones so that should minimize skipping problems.
I will probably be choosing from dealer inventory the end of the month. If I can get something with the low end stereo I will, but I am a little more at ease if I have to take one of the upgrades.

From the context, I am assuming single and double DIN is how many "standard" sized boxes will fit the opening. What does DIN stand for???

Thanks again.

Shaker 500 auxillary input

I am looking to attach an input to the auxillary input of the shaker 500 in my 06 mustang GT. I would like to see what is back there before I start taking things apart. Does anyone have a picture or schematic of the back of a shaker 500/1000 stereo? I figure enough people are talking about replacing their head units with aftermarkets that someone has to have their head unit lying around and could snap a pic for me. Thanks!

Mine is a fairly late 05 with thye shaker 500 and I had only 1 problem with burnt CDs or MP3's, It is one song that skips and bumps and must be a bad file. I did have a couple of store boughts skip but they are old and are getting pretty beat up. Probably 4 skips total in 4 months. Pretty good IMHO

Daddy... the aux input is only meant for a Ford-proprietary unit such as a dvd player in a minivan or suv. It won't accept aftermarket devices such as xm, etc... and IMHO, whoever's interested, one can do much better for the money by having the base stereo system installed and then going all aftermarket.

My 05 Mustang GT was built on 12/14/04 and I took delivery on 12/28/04.
I had problems with the first Shaker 500's CD player skipping once in a while...(it would work fine for a few weeks, then start skipping all the time) so I stopped using the CD player until the dealer replaced the head unit.
Since I got the new head unit I havn't had any problems with the CD player.

eedwards, thanks for the reply. I didn't even think about that but it makes sense. I guess I'll just keep burning the mp3s to discs whenever I want to play them in the car. Someday I'll probably put a new head unit in with navigation and aux input, but for now I'll focus on paying the car off.

My Shaker 1000 has not skipped once. Well, it has skipped where my CD's are scratched and skipp in every CD player. However, it skipps less than my CD player at home on those. I love my Shaker 1000, sure I could have gotten more with less money going aftermarket, but I did not want to tear up my new interior. That just invites extra squeaks and rattles. IMHO.

I really like my Shaker 1000 and consider it money well spent. It comes with a speaker in the trunk, so no new wiring is necessary, and the bass is pretty amazing. I have had no problems with skipping. The only complaint I have is the slight pause betwen every song (which is only an issue on CDs that purposely blend songs together). Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

I will go back to my own Forum, now!! :D
