Tranny Dead?

Hi All, Before I left for college, I was trying to get my Mustang running, and since i got annoyed with one project (Fixing all the rust) I decided to play with something else. Some quick background on my car. It's a '66 289 2v with an auto trans that I pulled out of a barn early this summer. It hadnt run in nearly 25 years and after plugs, fluid change, some new gas, and playing with the carb she idles smooth (i just dont run her too long, no exhaust..goddamn rust gets everything). Anyways, So I fired her up and let her idle for awhile and slipped the stock auto trans back into D and gave her a little gas...nothing. Nothing in any gear including reverse, no sounds when I move the shifter, no little lurches in the car that you sometimes get in an automatic when you shift it...so whats up? I topped off the auto trans fluid, but since I went to college havent had time to play with it since. Any input? Thanks :flag:

Most likely one of five things:
1) The linkage has been seperated from the transmission. Even though your shifting the gear selector, it's not going into gear as far as the transmission goes.
2) Your clutch packs are toast. It could have been an abused car or trated badly with neutral drops and with enough milage or rough driving, the packs have simply worn out to the point where they can't grab. If so, it'll need a rebuild.
3) Your tranny filter could be clogged or there might not be any fluid in there at all. When you put it into gear, the fluid can't run down the tracks and no pressure is present to engage into gear. I had to change my filter when it had taken longer and longer for the car to eventually :clunk: into gear (a duration or 1 to 5 seconds or so).
4) Torque converter broken? It's possible that it seperated and hasen't been able to grab.
5) The simplest to check for. If it's sat so long, maybe the driveshaft or another part of the drivetrain has been removed.

I'm thinking it's most likely #1 or #3.
