Thoughts on the FRPP King Cobra clutch?

lol you dumbasses fine ill go get more vids chirping 3rd for you with the road completly dry, plus you wouldnt be able to hear the tire chirping if the road was wet, and if it was wet, i would have spun launching 1st

I can chirp third every single time with my KC and thats not powershift, or dumping the clutch when i shift

heres 3 vids you can hear it everytime:(you might have to turn up your volume camera is alittle weird with sound)

http://members.lycos.co.uk/nickh/000_0070.MOV(1st-top of 3rd)
http://members.lycos.co.uk/nickh/000_0138.MOV
http://members.lycos.co.uk/nickh/000_0146.MOV(2nd gear roll)

I don't think you understood the point I was trying to make. I had the same tires/same suspension/same shifting/driver/etc. Only difference was different clutch and it would chirp third while the KC didn't. I never nor did I intend to say a 5.0L can't chirp third with a King Cobra. Many factors differ from car to car. It was not a negative thing towards the King Cobra. Just hit a bit less.

You can hear a chirp under damp conditions.

Heres part of what you posted in Talk a few days ago:

You state launch with wet road in the second video and it appears to be the same road and the same day as your other videos... And also you can hear the tires spinning you mention we wouldnt be able to hear the tire chirping if the road was wet.

and forget the vids guys, ill get one later on dry road since the road is wet

I have a KC in my LX and I absolutely love it. My vert has a spec1 in it and it's total crap...It's fairly new but it chatters, stinks, SLIPS, and is starting to get extremely stiff. It is toast, basically. I'm going to install a KC in it this weekend. I just put a brand new cable in the LX, and it feels soooo nice compared to the spec.

:nice: To King Cobra.

nvm i get your point now, sorry for being a dickhead

i use a kc clutch, been good for me. holds enough to spin through third gear on 275 nittos. awesome street car clutch, cant say how it holds to hard launches at the track.

never felt it slip, but i know im getting to its limitations. they are said to support 400 hp, im testing that or pretty close now and its holding great :nice: best bang for the buck clutch out there i think.

Mine should be all done by Monday! New LUK KC clutch, rebuilt tranny with 2.95 gear set and a new firewall click clutch cable adjustor along with new poly tranny mount and crossmemeber bushing kits. It will be hard for me to lay off the power for a month or so.

King Cobra Clutch

I just destroyed a Spec Stage II clutch due to improper adjustment of the UPR quadrant and FWA. DOH!!! While the Spec was a great clutch, I think it was a little to on/off, and surely would have destroyed my T5 over time. So I am looking for something a little more T5 freindly.

What seems to be the general consensus on the FRPP King Cobra clutch kit?

I have had one in my 87 lx for 6 years has been good to me .Little stiff if you hold it in at red lights for long time.

I had these EXACT problems as soon as I put in a Spec Stage 1. Not a great clutch. I now have the Stage 2, which I've had for about a year, and it's a really good clutch, but like someone said before, it's a little too on/off'ish for daily driving, and the pedal is a bit stiffer than the King cobra. The KC is the first clutch I had, for the first year and a half I had my car, and that was a really nice clutch for a daily driver. I think the KC is the way to go if you don't have too much power.

30% more power is only like 60-70 horse. In other words, if you are running over 300 horse, you should look elsewhere for a clutch. the KC is a great all around reliable clutch. I've been through two of the heavy duty versions (same clutch stiffer pedal) It doesn't grab on/off like the spec. Truthefully I thought it was too easy to slip if you gave it too much gas.

As far as chirping, on my bone stock 86 vert I would have to powershift it with the gas floored to get a chirp. that car ran 15.3's stock and I probably could have gotten another tenth or two. Even years later (enginemore tired) 3.73 gears, I still had to powershift for a chirp. Was kind of annoying.

On my current combo, which I'm just finishing, I installed a take off 93 cobra nos clutch. this is with a gt40 headed explorer engine. We'll see how that holds up.

If I had the cash, I'd run centerforce dual frictions for the rest of my life. (my bro is running that clutch) it's not too on/off, and still slips easy enough at the track to modulate.

KC in mine for 4 years and about 18K miles. Pedal pressure seems reasonable to me although the leverage may be different with the Volvo pedals. As for how hard it hits -- listen to the other guys. I'm traction limited - so the tires let go LONG before the clutch does.
