Are fewer people coming to the forums?

In response to the OP, I too have noticed the same things. Mostly as others have mentioned, too much of the same things and not much desire on my part to go at it all over again. Also noticed a lot of the same attitudes that go flinging around (not to mention in this thread and no one specific) that make people feel unwanted here. I guess you do have to take the good with the bad... I guess I'll just hang back and see what comes around, quiet little me....

Hey, where'd you get that avatar from? :D

Recently, I had a thread deleted, twice actually but once without warning, because it supposedly lacked enough tech related comments within the tech section. It was best described by the admin as a "Look at me" post and then deleted because it did not YET have much in the ways of technical comments.

In the past if this was an issue the topic was moved to the correct forum, NOT DELETED.

I since have posted the same exact topic on another forum and a lot of technical discussion followed since it involves spark plug installation and discussing the neccessary tool to gap those same plugs.

I've been a part of this site for more than 5 years and the recent events are causing me to take my business elsewhere.

I like the community here but this moderation is not proper and takes away from a happy experience. I also expect the admins to remain in a mature maner without trying to disrespect people. Unfortunately, I was treated with a comment that was purposefully meant to anger me.

Since we are all in here and discussing this topic, let's have this discussion out in the open. Tyler, Jenn, and everyone else can critique my decision, since you chose to bring it up. The thread in question was titled "I got bored again". It contained the following text and 3 pictures: a pic of a painted NOS bottle, a pic of spark plugs in the box, and a pic of ring and pinion in the box. I removed it because it did not contain any tech or tech questions.

I Got Bored Again...
Since I cant install my next group of mods I was feeling bored with too much time on my hands so I decided to strip the paint off my 10lb bottle.

I sanded it down using various grits of paper, up to 1500, and then sprayed it with a Duplicolor shaker and then cleared to match my exterior's Redfire.

I think it came out darn nice but now it needs a new sticker.

I also got my Autolite HTzeros this past morning but I cant do anything with them until I receive that special indexer.

And while Im at it, my Ford Racing Performance Parts 410 gearset. The ring and pinion are huge and heavy, go figure.

EDITED by gp001 - "Look at me" edited out.

Feel free to critique my decision to delete. Since Cleveland has such an issue with it I would like to hear from others. Do we inundate tech with pics of purchases?

I think that people are posting less because they are out driving their Mustangs more. Especially those northern vert owners whom are attempting to get in some nice Fall drives before they have to put their ponies inside for the Winter.

I don't think that the "shine" has worn off the discussions of the '05-'06 models.

Its just that most of us owners have taken to lurking the forums in lieu of commenting on every little thing that catches our eye.

After the "Tire Valve Cap Install" thread - - - well just suffice it to say that it just doesn't get much better than that.

I've noticed over the last few weeks fewer and fewer new threads and fewer and fewer responses to threads.
Where is everyone?
Aren't the folks who visit this site still interested in our beloved Mustangs. Where is the advice, comments, etc.
I posted a thread two days ago about a new UPR product. No responses. I've seen many threads such as gas mileage that haven't had responses for weeks.
Am I missing something?

I agree. Every time I Log on it's always the same threads. And also I found myself posting more before I got my Stang.

I think it should have merely been moved to the Talk forum.

Well your not asking me..But since you wanna talk about it here on the open board.
I'm not a mod here..but I am mod of several other forums...That being the reason I don't post as much here.

When was it decided that if there wasn't a "question" posed to the board even if the post included parts being installed, replaced or uninstalled that it wasn't technical and must be deleted or locked?

Once upon a time here...Only Trolls and spammers or attacks were deleted and locked.

If you decided it wasn't technical...It should have been moved to talk...not deleted.
It's happening alot..You seem to be a bit aggressive in your edits, deletes and locks....Usually giving a nasty last post before you lock it saying "Stop wasting space or something like that.
It seems like a good reason that less people post here...If they feel you'll try and embarass them if their post doesn't suit YOUR technical standards.

Well.. now you have my opinion...You can put me on your hit list if you choose...I hope you read it and understand it comes from experience and from what I see...and isn't ment to be personal.

I tend to think threads should be deleted only if they are obnoxious, libelous or in very, very poor taste. Moving to another thread would definitely be better than deleting because they don't "match" the category.
I agree that some posts are boring and take up lots of space. And some do want to show off their stuff.
So what? Isn't part of this site being able to show off our Mustangs? Who is being hurt, other than perhaps bored, by such posts?
If we don't permit free speech, people will go elsewhere.

I too have moderated several boards and don't put anyone on any hitlist.

I'm not trying to argue, but I think your perception is wrong. I just did a search on my username and went back through several months worth of threads looking at the reasons I gave. Most were 'moving to talk", or other innoxious verbiage to the same effect. No "aggression". Aside from the For Sale threads that always get a sarcastic reply, the only other one was this post.

http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?p=5440910#post5440910

It was a post by Clevelend containing links to all of his other posts. And yes, I still feel that is a waste of bandwidth. The individual posts exist, there is no need to ad another post to link to them (othr than the "look at me" value).

I don't try to embarass anyone (other than For Sale posters). You may want to make sure it wasn't Duner, Tyler, or some of the other mods/admins. I try to be very cautious when I post here on SN and I try to keep my comments innoxious.

If MRaburn, Tyler, Duner, etc think I am not doing right by SN all they have to do is tell me.

coming form someone unfamiliar with whats involved in a running a forum, please explain how the technical side of the forum is run. by that i mean, what is good bandwidth and whats a waste of space? what does bandwidth do?

It seems to me that one of the other mods not posting here comes off a bit cocky and godlike, but that's JMHO. Of course, I've been told that I'm too sensitive a few times, and I probably am. After all, even a person's avatar can alter my perception of them! I even worried if my own avatar was too snobbish... :rlaugh: I am perhaps at times a bit oversensitive to authoritative figures. I've had a run in or two with them in the past. I hope someone doesn't read this and automatically assume that I was at fault in those cases, either. There 'are' abuses of authority that happen. Even if they're small, such as slight intimidation, or being condecending(sp?)..

But I really don't see much of that here, just what seems to be just a little, to me. And then again, I'm too friggin sensitive sometimes! :D

Good post..Thanks :nice: ... You may be right about the trying embarass anyone comment.
When against a troll or spammer...I get it...When against a member making a mistake..not so much.
And I do agree that threads started with only links to other posts aren't needed.

Why are you involving yourself in this thread? You neither owna 2005 nor are you a regular participant in this particular forum.

Me thinks you are trolling.

Don't get yourself beaunned

I'm not sure there is less interest in this forum, but if there is less interest it's probably is because GTs are becoming increasingly available. There are dozens of GTs at Austin area dealerships. They even have several 2005 GT verts. I suspect that this will become the norm all over the country, in the next few months.

So.....how's the Nazi Party?

Why am I involving myself in this thread? I don't own a 2005, nor am I a regular participant in this forum.

Well Mr. Himmler, for one I own a Mustang. And I used to be a regular participant in this forum a while back when the 05s were just coming out.

I don't know about yourself, but I like to hang out with many different people. Not just the ones similar to me ,whether through form, shape, or thought. I am involving myself because I can, because I want to, and because this topic interest me. But it maybe is because I am a troll. But then again, maybe because I care about what people here think and talk about. Or maybe just because I was bored.

In the end, I don't think why I am here matters. What matters seems to be your lack of understanding and your desires. Pay attention to them.

I personally haven't been very active. But it is mostly due to buying an Audi A4. I couldn't get any dealers to budge on price. And I wanted something a little larger in the interior. Of course I still have the mustang. And will eventually buy an S197 stang. But for now. I shop for Audi parts.

What???? Hope that thing holds together for you. I've heard nothing but horror stories about those...

Right now I'm mostly lurking to see what kind of things are breaking--so far it doesn't really sound that bad. I'm interested in people who are flogging the hell out of their cars and trying to make them go faster, but most of the threads are about stripes and exhaust and pricing, which is kind of boring. But show me a forum about new cars that isn't boring. I'm still planning to pick up a GT used in the next few years. By then there should be more gearhead types playing with these cars and breaking stuff and posting their experiences.

In terms of the mod issues this site is no better or worse than most.

I figure this board will liven up a bit when 351CJ buys a s197. 351CJ--what are you waiting for, man?
