Perhaps you should look up the definition of modular. No dual meanings here.

Parts from 1 motor can be used in another.

Example: Pull the parts from the cobra and use them in the GT.

I have no idea if the v8 can have 2 cylinders added to the block to become a 10 so I cant comment there. It would be the first time I have even heard of it being possible.

Ford's use of the term modular means the same short block but with many trim levels. Think of how many differant applications there of the 4.6L and 5.4L Modular motors...

4.6L: SOHC 2v Car, SOHC 2v Truck, SOHC 3v Car, DOHC 4v Car, DOHC 4v Intercooled S/C'd
5.4L: SOHC 2v Truck, SOHC 2v Intercooled S/C'd, DOHC 4v Car, DOHC 4v Truck, DOHC 4v Intercooled S/C'd.

At least five trim level at all are based on the same block, but differant trim levels.

no it would not be corect to assume that

if you were to use thee cobra block on the 05 you get a nice little oil leak from the timing cover that requires some customization to fix

they are not IDENTICLE but are close enough that you can use parts interchangabley for the most part..

but some of the external things like the timeing covers etc are different
