Hey guys - almost wrapped up with the head swap and am installing the oil dip stick tube. I put on BBK headers. Where the hell is there room to insert the tube back down the side of the engine and into the spout?:SNSign:
Did you get a new dipstick tube with a headswap kit? It is a real PITA! I have read about some guys braking 2 of them before finally getting it.
I removed the driver side engine mount to get it through my shorties. It recommends doing that in the bossracing head swap article so i did it and got it in with the help of a friend.

I hate the dipstick! It was the hardest part of the PI swap, oh well, I had to bend mine sort of to make mine work, didnt really hurt it, but its just a little more difficult to pull the dipstick out now....they do have a little bit of flex, just be careful not to break off the end of it in the block, that wouldnt be fun at all

i don't understand. Why is Dip stick sooooo hard???

Thats what I thought. But man it is a PITA.

drop - I did get a new tube with the kit. I might remove that engine mount does that make it any easier? How did you support the engine?

Ears - did ypou bend it as you inserted it or bend outside of the car

I had problems with mine when I added JBA headers. There is a company called Lokar that makes a dip stick tube out of braided steel that is bendable for the 4.6L engine. I went that route as the factory one was pissing me off!

I used a floor jack and some wood to support the engine...i jacked it up some but still had to bend that thing and did it in the car and out :(... and i did have help. I'm going to look into this braided dip stick tube by Lokar...I'm swapping in some new heads and if i don't have to deal with that again i will gladly hand out some extra cash.

I just emailed them for a part # and price....thanks for the heads up on this. I'm definately getting one for my next swap. And can now recommend it to all those who come on here with the same problem down the road.

I bent it after it was already in the block in order to get it to fit around the headers the way I wanted. It was a real pain, but it worked out okay and it doesnt leak so its all good, that was a frustrating 2 hours though! Good luck man.
