Check engine light?

I have an 03 Gt and i accidentally overfilled the gas tank and gas came out the overfill tube at the bottom of rear bumper. about a minute after i left the check engine light came on. The dealership said the fuel vapor sensor is setting light off. They have to drop gas tank and a bunch of other crap to fix it.I reset the computer and the light dosent come back on till I get gas. just a little gas will set it off. How can I fix this? Is there gas in the charcole canister?

**** that. It'll dry up eventually.. just deal with the light for a few days, then once your level goes down, have autozone erase the code.

is unhooking the battery the same as autozone erasing the code?

Its under waranty but they said it was my fault so its not covered
