I just took delivery of my '06 Convertible and noticed a tear in the top at the lower right hand corner where the rear glass outer edge radius contacts the top. The dealer has received authorization from Ford to replace the top. Has anyone else seen this problem?

If it smells like a lemon...is it a lemon???

I have an 05 vert and the only issue I have with the top is that the weather has not been nice lately and it's been up entirely too much over the last 2 weeks. :(

And I'm not sure I would scream lemon just yet. It is a single defect and as you said, they have been authorized to replace the top. Hopefully, once this is corrected, it will be smooth sailing with wind in your hair.

Not lemonaide yet...

My wife's 2003 New Beetle convertible has had its top replaced twice now. In addition, with 4 trips to fix leaks, seeps, rear glass and headliner detachment. The top switch fails at random, and at the worst times. That's a lemon.

It's in the shop again now. 2 weeks still.

A tear is a bad thing, but they're fixing it, so it'll probably be fine.

I had a similar situation. In my case, the outer canvas was detached from the lower right hand corner of the back window. They replaced the top. Been about a month so we'll see how it goes.

Arrggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I dont want to come across here as a vert hater, but I hate the thought of owning one or even driving one.

noisy, leaky, drafty .... and I live in sunny So Cal for crying out loud!!

Which reminds me of something that a women once said about me
~ "the thought of you is better than the reality" ~
That pretty much sums up the way I feel about verts too

"Have you driven a Foooooooord, lately?!"

Anyhow, the new Mustang 'verts are suprisingly quiet, draft free, and leak free (well, I got a drop when I put it through the LaserWash once...how many PSI is that???) No, it's not a hard top. But that's why I bought it! hehe

Personally, I'm happy they offer it in both hard and ragtop models :D To each his own!

I replaced the top on my 1966 Mustang convertible a couple of years ago. I paid a guy dearly to do it. After getting the new top installed, a tear was discovered. It's one that could not be seen by looking at the uninstalled top. It took stretching on the car for it to show up.
My vendor replaced it but I had to pay labor twice.
I have not driven a new convertible. I can tell you that all of the older models will leak if it rains long and hard enough. That's the nature of the beast.

Well....The top was replaced. My new convertible has more wrinkles than my grandma. The dealer said to give it a couple of weeks to stretch. Doesn't stretching cause more wrinkles??? Am looking forward to my appointment with the FCS (Ford Customer Service Rep.).
