3.55 or 3.73

4.10s will probably be the better choice...just because of the 6800RPM redline. You should make it to nearly 120 with 4.10s and 6800. I doubt you will get over that in the 1/4 with a N/A mach. If you do all that you may get mid-low 400s.

And this is coming from a hard core 3.73 guy lol, so I think you will be happy with them. BTW I have 3.73s in my GT (VERY VERY happy) and in my dad 00 V6, again, VERY VERY happy. The v6 took to the 3.73s like mad, and they made a HUGE difference with now loss of mid-lowend range. And as for traffic and taking off, the car will probably feel slower with 4.10s and people with autos will pass you durring normal driving/takeoff because you will have to shift pretty quickly.

If your going to spend the money on a gear change, go with at least 4.10, but on a 5spd I'd even push 4.30 on the 32v. Going with something like 3.73 is a waste, unless the labor is free or your getting a ridiculous deal.

Sure it's great to upgrade to 31 splines, but it's not madatory. There are numerous people over on the Mach 1 Registry who have switched to 4.30 & are still running an otherwise factory rear-end with no issues.
3.73's are not a waste, 4th gear with the stock 3.55's takes miles to get to redline, with the 3.73's it pulls strong right to red line in 4th in no time at all. Have you ever been in a Mach1 with 3.73's?

I'm familiar with the Registry and there are also plenty of people over there who have had issues with axles when going with 4.30's. I'd say more than, than not. Why chance it, more damage could be done if one does break, and worse an axle breaks and it comes out at speed, then what? Have you ever seen what happens when an axle comes out? Not a pretty site to see. :nonono:

since you already have 3.55s i dont thinkg 3.73s would be a big step up in preformance. on a 2V 3.73s are a nice step up, but with the mach i would go 3.90s at least. (4.10s, 4.10s....smile)

dont fear the gear man.

You have an extra 1000RPMS over a GT, those 4:10's on a 4V will act like 3:73's in a GT.

Get the 4:10's

These two points are quite valid. 3.73s won't bring a dramatic difference worth your money.
With a higher redline, 4.10s are the way to go with the 4v setup. I think you'll be pleased with them.

Quite contrary to the ones who say no to the 3.73's, most of you have no clue what a Mach1 is with them. How many na-sayers have rode in a Mach1 with 3.73's? I have had 3.55's, 3.73's, 4.30's and 4.56's in mine and if you're only going for 1/4 mile, don't waste your time on anything but the 4.56's but if you want a good gear that develops all the power in the first 4 gears throughout the entire power band, than 3.73's are it. Even the Director of Engineering for the Mach1 (Scott Hoag) says the best gear for the Mach1 is a 3.73 for the most overall usable power.

You can do what you want OxMox but if you are not concerned with all out 1/4 mile and want the most pull for the first 4 gears then get the 3.73's. Go make a run with the 3.55's from 0 to max rpm in 4th and time it and see how far you get. Then go do the same with 3.73's and you will be amazed at how many seconds will be cut off that time and how far you travel. :nice: With lower gears you will reach max rpm quicker but the distance traveled is much much less. :nice:
