Just purchased Supercharger, do I have to send my PCM in?

I just purchased the Saleen Supercharger for my 06 'vert. I am concerned about sending the computer in to them for programming, fearing it might get damaged or lost in transit. Is there a way to program my ECM myself with Saleen's program? Any suggestions?

no, it says you have to mail in your computer to them, with the vin# and any modificaitons and they will reprogram it and send it back to you, I was kinda hoping to not to have to mail it in, just in case of damage.

Great question. I just watched a Saleen Supercharger install. It was done by a tuner and he custom tuned the computer with an SCT-2 on a Dyno. I hope this helps.

I will find out if the SCT-2 came with the blower. But that point is moot. No you don't have to send in your ECU. Hope this helps.

Why don't you have to send in the ECU? Saleen says you have too...I am new to all of this, so forgive me for being ignorant to the issue.

Because a qualified Tuner can tune it on a Dyno. Polkthug who is on this site is the one I saw tuned, maybe he will chime in on more specifics. No question is a bad one. I understand, you don't want to grenade your baby.

that kind of suks cause the other s/c out there include a sct or predator tuner .i.e. jmd comes to mind . please before you buy find out these things. i know their selling saleen s/c's . vortech also , procharger all hav tuners included in s/c package.vynle.

You aren't required to send in your pcm - If you do, they will flash it with a canned tune that worked on their test mule with just the S/C installed. If instead you buy a predator or sc2, you can have a shop create a custom tune for your car that will most likely work better than the tune Saleen would load for you - ESPECIALLY if you have other mods. You will need to take one of these routes to adjust for the S/C.

You also have the advantage of diagnostics and datalogging with a handheld tuner, along with a way to make small corrections to your tune. Instead of "why is my check engine light on?" you can just plug it in and find out.

call Jim or Jim Jr at JDM Engineering. http://www.teamjdm.com/main.php The have installed several Saleen superchargers in the 05 Mustang and have a Saleen s/c 05 test mule of their own. They can set you up with the right information including the 39# injectors that will help the car from going lean at higher RPMs. When it comes to putting a s/c on your car - installation, components and proper tune will make you and the car much happer IMHO.

I bought the kit Moondog spoke of and am having Kauffman Motorsports install and tune the whole thing. Picking it up on Saturday. JDM has been great through all of this.

so what will happen if I drive on the stock program until I get it to a dyno and have a custom tune done. I don't have any custom mods done, only thing I put in it was a K&N air filter, thats it, no CAI or other mods. I am thinking of making an appt with the place in NJ, im in MD, so not too far away, but I am afraid of driving it w/ stock tune with s/c in it.

with the 39# injectors, dont you need to replace the fuel pump for better performance???

I wouldn't drive the car at all untill you have some sort of tune, you're risking blowing up an engine that you just spent thousands of extra dollars on. If you send your PCM back to Saleen you will get a descent tune that will be fine (I've heard it is a 2-3 day turnaround time). If you call a tuner, like JDM, they will send you a "canned tune" that is better. I know JDM recommends the 39# injectors and a 90mm MAF to most customers. The very best option is to take the car to a good tuner (like JDM) and have them custom dyno tune your car. No two cars are exactly alike so canned tunes can't control for every variable. A custom tune may be a little more expensive, but peace of mind is worth it IMO.

forgive me for being ignorant again, but when you say they will send you a "canned" tune, how do I load that to my computer, with a predator type reader? And how do I "load" it to my car? I am new so please be patient with me.

No problems, the only stupid question is the one not asked (I know...there are members that will prove me wrong on THAT every time)

In Saleen's case if you send them the PCM they load thier tune for you. When you reinstall it everything will work.
For anyone else, yes, you would need some sort of hand held "Tuner."
From what I understand the SCT is more flexible and controls more variables than the Predator. Whether or not you think it is "Better" or not is for you to decide. I think most people prefer the SCT.

Good luck and make sure to post your results.

I guess the tune of your PCM by Saleen is included when you purchase the S/C kit ? if so the 1st thing to do is to send in your PCM to have it done....

Them you can think about other tunes in the future.

And stop worring about your PCM getting damage, DELL (and thousands of companies) is sending PCs and fragile parts around the world with no damages !!!

Have fun with your S/C 05 !

i just talked to Jim Jr. at JDM and he is awesome, he hooked me up with a tuner, 2 tunes, 39# injectors, 90mm MAF and their CAI, it should be here next week, I can't wait!! I will let all know when the install is successful.
