Car Broken Into

So I was at 2044 tonight and I left around 12:30 and my car was broken into. The strange thing is all they took was my owners manual... So I have no idea what the story with that is. The molding along the window is pulled out and the top edge of the door no longer lines up so they must have known exactly how to break into a Mustang. The funniest part though, is I had my Focus keys in the car and they probably thought they were the key for the Stang so I bet they tried to start it with no luck. The look on their faces would have been priceless. We also saw a truck with a smashed window in the same parking lot. So much for putting the car away tomorrow... :(

Damn, that sucks man! They didn't take any CD's or anything? That's weird. Maybe they were just trying to boost the car and couldn't get it going. You got the smart criminals, they're reading up on how to steal your car next time! :rlaugh:

Nothing was missing at all, except the manual. That's what I don't get I had two CDs in the car and the cases were in the center console and they just threw them in the back seat the actual discs were still in my stereo. They didn't take my registration or my wheel lock or my Focus keys or the girl's house keys. Maybe they just took the manual cause they were so mad there was nothing cool to steal in my car so they were like well we'll just take this I guess. I'm gonna take my car in tomorrow to get an estimate on the repair, if it's less then $500 I'm not even gonna bother reporting it to SGI. The only thing I'm worried about is if the door is bent can they bent it back so it's perfect? If not I kinda want a new door. Cause I mean all I'd really need is the metal part, it would just need to be painted and then swap over all the accessories. I guess I'll have more answers tomorrow...

Upon further investigation I'm thinking that door is just kinda separated from the panel or something cause it doesn't appear to be bent at all. They stuck something in the top of the window and chipped the window a bit and put a few marks in the molding above that. Plus the weather stripping is kinda ****ed. There is no damage at all to the interior, minus the missing owner's manual. So I guess this could have been a lot worse than it was. Thank goodness. But it still sucks big time.

I usually don't , but I was thinking, last night with car before I put it away. Go for one last night time drive kinda thing. I don't think it would have mattered which car I took cause these guys broke into a lot cars in the parking lot.

Sorry to hear about the luck. One question-do you have aftermarket billet door lock knobs? I've always wondered if it would be easier for a thief to break in by prying the glass back and using a coat hanger or equivalent to pull the knob up.Some of the aftermarket billet ones have more of a "shoulder" to grip with the wire.

I also refuse to take my car anywhere it will be parked for a period of time longer than 15 minutes, and not in direct view of the public. I've seen tons of claims from people who've had their vehicles broken into at the Galaxyland theatre this year.

Hey Graham - Bars = bad places to take your car. I've only took my car to 2044 once and it was parked right infront of the entrance in plain view.
I suggest getting an alarm they are usefull and surve a purpose doesnt mean this will 100% stop a theif, there are other pays to protect yourself like taking anything that is valuable in your car and making sure its not in plain view, i.e cd's, mp3 players, deck, cell phone, money, keys, whatevever if you have to take your car somewhere always park in a high traffic area. I really hate bars because there are alot of drunk people/ also people drinking in the parking lot/.
Something seems very fishy about your break in to tell me the truth, someone breaks into your car in a pretty professional manner, to only steal a owners manual...

Russ- I thought galaxy was fairly decent I dont have a problem taking my car there, usually because I see a security guard walking around the parking lot and the fact that its a pretty high traffic area with shoppers, brewsters, mr.sub and rogers alll surrounding that area...

I agree that it seems very weird...

I took the car over to Bennett this morning to get a quote and it looks like I have to go through SGI, it's gonna be around $1000. The door separated thing, turns out they broke the welds that hold the door skin together. Plus $200 for new glass, $100 for new weather stripping, plus fixing the paint chips and replacing my freaking manual! So the call has been made to get the car in to SGI. I explained the whole summer car only thing and they seemed to be pretty optimistic that they could look at it soon. So that's good. I'll keep you guys posted and I should get my digicam back today, so I can post some pictures of the damage later.

Im in the same boat as you, however my car got hit and run at the university and I just finished dealing with SGI so I can get my car fixed however my plates run out in 6 days so there is no chance of getting it fixed this year.

Holy crap! I'm really sorry to hear that Jordy. How much damage was done? Is it drivable?

2 years ago my car got hit and run at the U of R. It was parked by the mini mall across the street on Kramer and someone smoked the left side of the rear bumper. This was right about this time, got it fixed at Western autobody and they kept it inside the whole time since it was snowing off and on. One of the guys there is into Stangs and he wouldn't let anyone put it in the snow. If you go there be sure to ask for Anne.

It's not a nice feeling.

Not to much damage however its definitely a pain in the ass, my left taillight is busted out and my bumper is all scratched up($850)... soo it's looking pretty raunchy right now hah

fine99- Thanks for the info.

Well I just got back from SGI, they quoted it at $1700! So the parts have already been ordered and I'm taking it in tomorrow for them to get started on it, so hopefully I can get it away by Monday next week. *Please don't snow*
