If i put 6, it'll go way over full on dip stick. Mine is 2001. where is this TSB at?

Same here... dealer overfilled mine by a lot... and that TSB doesn't say anything, it just says to check it and if tis right its right... it doesn't talk abotu overfilling, only about underfilling :(

I always add 5 quarts and I change the filter always. Hmm, guess I will go check the level. All this talk about 6.25 quarts is making me paranoid :(

Oddly, the perfect match for my GT is 5.5 quarts and I always swap the filter. I put the other .5 qt in at the 1500 mile mark.

6 quarts per the manual.

Exactly - including the filter. I was a little concerned when I got my '04 at 3 months and 7k miles old that the oil was only half way up the stick. But it's never budged and 5.7 Litres (6 quarts) brings it right back to the same spot every time. I have also read some BAD things about topping off / overfilling beyond that. Pressure is always just over the halfway mark on the gauge. I don't think the MAX is always a target to aim for in this case.

Obviously being light on oil is a bad idea but the only OHC valvetrain I ever had any trouble with was on a car that had been overfilled and subsequently started using oil.

Just an FYI, you shouldn't rely on the stock gauges for something like this. If your pressure is too low for example, the stock oil psi guage will stay in the normal zone until it's probably too late.

so for a 2k gt, it should be 5 quarts? or slightly over?

im picking my car up this week if ford ever ****ing gets going. ill probably change the oil immidiately and want to make sure. or is this something that kinda goes car to car for people?

My best advice to you for the oil level is to rely on your owner's manual.

im not sure if ill get that information with the car or not. it is a used car im buying.

when i change it ill buy 7 quarts to be safe and start at 5 then. just wondering, i need to learn all the year differences with these cars. dammit i hate starting fresh with stuff lol.

Ok, how about this...fill your car with 5.5-6.2qts or until oil line is midway-top of thatched marks. Check your oil each week when you fill up...only takes a second to check it. (I sound like my dad.):)
