well i think i found out my problem with the c4. the valve body has a hair line crack in it where one of the bolts goes through and it doesnt seal all the way. and im the one who put tapped the hole and put the bolt in there, so i guess its my fault. oh well...ill see what i can do to it tomorrow. anyways, when i look up inside the tranny after the valve body is out i can see two bands, one towards the fron and one towards the rear. both of them look to be in good shape, except there is some play in them. they arent that tight...but im also not sure if they are supposed to be. the front one is a little more loose than the back one. its not that they are loose to the point of falling off, but they definetly can be moved around a little bit. if anyone can give me some insight into this that would be great. if they are fine the way they are than thats cool with me. thanks in advance

the bands shouldnt be giving you a problem unless they are worn completly out or unless someone loosed the two nuts which holds the tention on the bands in the first place. Those two bands are your reverse band and (mind is blank right now on what other band is).......
anyway. The valve body may need to be replaced. Because if your loosing pressure thru that crack that is why it won't engage and hold properly. Give Dynamic a call and talk to harold miller.....203-315-0138
good luck

well the crack is on the outside of one of the bolt holes. and the bolt i put in is pushing the two halves of he valve body apart. so im about 99.99% sure that this is the problem. im gonna take a look at it tomorrow at work and see if i cant fix it. if not, ill be getting a tci full manual valve body.

I dont think you would like it much. The tci stuff is kinda trashy for the C4,as there trans break once sent us backwards from 3000rpm :nonono: .

But I do have one if you decied thats what you want,Ill have to ask my pop what he wants for it.

ive always heard that tci is a good company. might have to find another brand after that story. what brand do you run in the car now? im not looking for a fancy valve body, just something that is strong and works. no trans-brakes

Right now,we got a full PA super comp C4,but thier valve bodies them selfs are very nice. You can get them in just a rev. manual with out the brake.I think Dynamic makes a rev. manual valve body for them,I know they got a great trans break, very fast reacting.

There are other companise too,I just dont like tci products personaly as we had that experiance with that transbreak and broken a few of thier parts for the C4.

dynamic has both manual, automatic valve bodies......and the service from Dynamic is TOP NOTCH!.......I personally owned one of their trans brake full manual valve bodies and always had great luck with it. Harold is one of the nicest knowledgable people you will ever talk to about a C-4 transmission..........I have never owned PA stuff, and prolly never will. The time's I called PA they were like this is what you need! no matter how I tried to describe what I wanted to do with the car it was always the same cocky attitude, and if you weren't spending a sack of money they really didnt act like they could give a shet less about wheather you bought from them or not! ........on the other hand, harold @ dynamic has always giving me great service, always took time to answer my questions (no matter if they sounded stupid or not) and have always acted like they were your long lost friend even if you only was buying a gasket! I don't think anyone of the other Trans companys has that kinda customer service! Personally if it were me I'd buy Dynamic, art carr or something before buying PA, or TCI. Not saying that TCI doesnt offer good parts.......just saying I like Great service and good parts......and I know Dynamic has that!
good luck

how much are we talking for a dynamic valve body. i dont need a trans brake or anything fancy. just a manual valve body. i can get a PA for 180 from summit and holcomb motorsports. im not gonna spend 300 bucks on a manual valve body just for customer service. but if they are that much better than everyone else...maybe its worth it. how about hughes performance?

Yea,I talked with Harold @ Dynamic and he is very nice.We got the PA because if the life time warrenty and free re-fresh,and we got a good price from a parts buddy.

But PA does have good customer service as far as their parts go.

so whats up? PA, dynamic, or someone else? im not gonna spend a lot of money on this because its just a street car until i get done with school. i dont want to buy a POS that im going to have to replace in the near future either. i want something that the car is going to be able to grow with. thanks for all the help guys

PA prolly has good parts......I'm not saying they don't, and the morons that worked there when I was trying to buy parts back in around 93-97 are prolly long gone. SO I shouldnt talk bad about something that happend so long ago, ...I guess!

Dynamic has a manual valve body for around the same price as PA or summit. Their quality is The best in my opinion........I mean, a manual valve body isnt much more than a modified stock valve body with a trans co kit in it anyway!..........Holcomb motorsports sells both PA and Dynamic.......talk with W.L. Baxley there at holcomb.........been dealing with W.L. for over 12 years!

as for something being a POS........you can put any valve body in that tranny and if it fills up with clutch material........it will be a POS! Bottem line is.........clutch packs will wear, bands will wear, and all that material will circulate around in the fluid........and you guessed it, the fluid travels thru the valvebody.
goodluck with which ever way u decide to go. just remember keep that thing kewl....and clean and it will live a long healty life

well now i just have to call holcomb tomorrow and see which one they think is better. the cooler i have is probably big enough, but ill probably end up buying a bigger one anyways, just to make sure. gonna take it up to work once i get it running and flush the tranny also. thanks for all the help guys

With the engine off, and the trans in park or neutral, the bands should be loose. Thats why the adjustment spec is torque to a value, and then back off a half turn or such. The servo's tighten them up when applied.

I have two TCI C4 valvebodies, one that I have run since 1987, and another that I got 5 years ago. Both work fine.

They have been excellent on the phone, the few times I have had to call them.

PA and Dynamic support Fun Ford Weekend, so I may try them one of these days.
