Roush Adding supercharger to 2005 S281

One of the SCOA members did it to his '05, as he bought it early before the factory was shipping with that option.

He had the selling dealer do the work, and it looks good.

As for any type of warranty, that is betwen him and the dealer. Not sure on the answer.

He has a red 05 and just added the blower at the dealer a few months back ( at least I think he did)and loves it! Saleen will stand behind the blower, but will not warranty the car if you have motor failure. If you have it installed at a Ford dealership that is a Saleen Authorized Dealer, they will most likely warranty the install and still honor your 3/36 factory Ford warranty. Just get it in writing as no two dealerships are alike in how they respond to warranty claims.

I did have the local Saleen Dealer do the install of a Series VI to me 05 SC281 - But I had to force Mike From Saleen to make it clear to them what their responsibilities were as a Saleen Dealer!! I was told that Saleen will warrantee the blower and that as a Saleen Dealer with certified Saleen mechanics doing the install that Ford would warrantee the motor for the full 3/36

That being said when I got the blower on and had the tune checked I found that the Saleen tune was very lean above 5000 RPM so I opted to have JDM do a custom tune, Change MAF to 90mm lightining, 39# injectors and modified Steeda CAI:D

Guess my warrantee is no longer good but I feel much better about the way it runs and the tune is very safe!!

:nice: So how much did the blower and install cost? Is the blower the only difference between the S281 and SC cars, besides the fog lights, spoiler and hood?

I am leaning heavily towards a new Saleen. I may have an opportunity to buy a new car when I get home, and the field is wide open!:) I'm still a little undecided; Cobra or Saleen??? I know the '04 Cobra is alot of power for the money, but the Saleen (non supercharged...can't afford the SC) is so beautiful! Always loved the Saleen looks, but have never driven one. I've driven a Cobra, though. So my plan is to add a blower later on to the S281 if I choose it over the Cobra. I may even be happy with the 325 hp it has stock, as it walks all over my auto '96 GT!:D

Decisions, decisions... Why did you all choose a Saleen over a Cobra? Exclusivity????

Wait a minute...:lol: I thought the SC cars had the two ugly fog lights in the front, or is that just on the GT's? Been looking on eBay and haven't found any SC's with gawdy lights.

Nah,

No fog lights up there. The hood, rear added wing, big brakes (you need them) and if I'm not mistaken, the 10" rear wheel up grade are the major differences between the the N/A car and the S/C. There are 1/4 window treatments as well. Anyone else that's want to ad to that can, I just listed the majors. You can always add those items including the blower at your leisure and still enjoy the car without hurting it's resale.

I like the light setup on the Saleen much better than the GT, anyway.

Let me ask you about quality, if I may. I've heard alot of people complain about fit, finish and quality of Saleen parts. Is it as bad as some say? I can't imagine it's that bad, else Saleen wouldn't exist...right?! I visited a Ford dealer in the Bay Area of California, and saw three Saleen's up close and personal, and they were flawless!:drool: The interior was perfect! And the seats...:hail2:

Nope no fog lights here!!!

I am in the blower with the additional mods around $7200 or so including the install - after doing this I would not have it any other way. I really like the hood on the S/C version but I do not like the "signature wing". The blower is the only other difference and I like the fact that the car does not advertise the blower but mostly I love the lines of the clean N/A body. I will probably upgrade to the S/C hood as I think that it really does contribute to lower engine bay temps and less hood shake at high speeds due to the high air pressure these cars build under the hood. I really love this car with the new blower as it really changed the overall feel or the car to what it really deserved to be in the first place. Good louck with your difficult decision!!

I don't know if the parts they produce go into 2 separate areas; one for production cars, and the other for kits.. but my kit peices were terrible and very unfinished. They were still workable however, after gobs of hours and money spent in the bodyshop to make it perfect.

Ford Country in Henderson did the install. I think the techs name was Matt??
He did a greata job looks like it was there from the factory!!!:nice:

I have dyno'd it. It dyno'd at SAE # 370 HP 364 Tq last time in 105 degree heat. I have not had a chance to get to the dyno when the weather was better yet but I can tell you it really likes the cooler weather!!:lol:

I am probably going to open up the exhaust a little with a Bassani X and maybe some headers to let it breath a little better then will dyno again

And those numbers were attained with 4 lbs. to 5 lbs. of boost, and low intake charge temperatures, right?

What was just the blower/install cost? Without the JDM tune and other stuff.

I know I will be happy with the car without the blower, since I've endured six years driving an auto '96 GT!:D But I also know eventually I'll get the itch to mod. But if I can get the blower for $5-6k more at the start...with warranty...I'm jumping all over it!

And I agree with you about the wing. It doesn't help the car look any better at all. It's perfect just the way it is!

I have seen the blower online ( just do a search as many different Mustang performance parts places carry them ) Try Haney Motorsport. Casey has incredible prices. I have seen them all the way down to $4,799 at a couple of places, I just can't remember exactly. The blower kit comes with everything you will need including the new Saleen tune for the S/C. The only thing is a lot of tuners have noticed that Saleen's tune that comes with the blower can be improved on. That is why Kpribble mentioned that he has a custom tune (JDM ) or any custom SCT tune for that matter. Most places charge right around $1,000 for the installation of the blower. So....

Installation - $1,000 although most places that know what they are doing charge around $900 so that really just brings you a bit over $6,000 with installation of the blower and if you purchase the blower out of state you can avoid paying tax.

The reason Kpribbles total bill was around $7,000 is that he added afew other goodies that allow the blower to work really well, 90 MM MAF ( mass air filter ) Lightning as in the Lightning pickup, 39 lb injectors ( higher flowing fuel injectors ) and his Steeda cold air intake, although you can go with a slightly different combo if you wish.

Honestly Cindy if you love the car just go out and buy a non supercharged version exactly the color and way you want it. Then when you get the itch go out, make your blower purchase and fall in love with your car all over again. Just save you minor parts that you replace with the blower in a box so when and if you ever decide to sell the car you can bring the top of the motor back to 100% stock ( for all of the those collector guys/gals ). You wont hurt the value of the car by adding the Saleen blower in the future.

Marcus is correct above!! I got the blowe3r through Haney Motorsports for around $4500 ish give Casey a call or call Jim at JDM they will hookyou up!!

My install was about $1200 the rest went to JDM for some new injectors, CAI, MAF and tuning - they did a great job!!
Also make sure you get some dyno time after the install regardless of who does it just to verify the tune as the stack Saleen tune is very lean and can cause some problems but you could get away with out all the extras with the right tune if you a willing to leave some power on the table!!

The car is very streetable and well mannered with the blower and I'm absolutely sure you would love the 05 with a blower on it!!

Had to bring this thread back-up. I am very close to having my 05 S281 supercharged. I was wondering if how your mods have been holding up and whether you had any further recommendations? Are you still running at 4 psi?
