I'm having a problem with coolant overflowing out of the overflow resivoir. The car also seams to misfire occasionaly after the car it warmed up.
I tried some bars leak and it seamed to help some. I changed the plugs (from bosch2's to autolite 25's)and showed them to a tech I work with and he told me there was no sign of coolant on them, but one bank seamed to be cleaner than the other? Also i see no smoke from the exhaust. AHHHHHHH. Time for a head reseal???? If so who has a nice shortblock they wanna sell me!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, the car is an 88 lx 5.0 speed density pretty much bone stock if that matters at all!!!!!

As said, first and always look to the thermostat. But if one cylinder is very clean and the others aren't, that's a bad sign, nothing cleans a piston like a blown HG. Almost looks like you detailed that cylinder when it's done.

Dumb Question??? **** Yourself!!!!! Never Dealt With This Problem, And The T-stat Opens How Can I Tell You Ask????? Ran The Car With An Open Radiator And You Can See The T-stat Opening And Closing By Watching The Coolant Flow Through The Rad. The Temp Is Reading The Normal Temp As Well.
So Thanks For Being A Prick Ss93cobra!! :)

I don't think cobra was being rude, just suggesting that he may be asking a dumb question, not that you asked one.

As far as the T stat goes, sounds like yours is open, but when in doubt change it, it's only like 5 bucks.

What's the oil look like? Milky, watery?

Ahh, now I understand. You thought I was accusing you of being dumb. Re-read it. I was making a statement of what was to follow. :Teh-Win: :bang:

So young so angry ;)..fist try the rad cap..easy and cheap, next look at putting an aftermarket temp gauge to get a real temp reading. Next I'd pull the stat if the above items don't show you anything.

My bad, I appolagize SS...... DMAN is right too so angry, i guess thats what working at a car dealership does to a person!!! Anyways, the radiator cap is brand new from Mr. Gasket and the thermostat is also a new Mr. Gasket 180 degree. I will pop off the housing and check that the t-stat is in correctly. I have had the problem for quite a while(before the cap and t-stat were changed) For a while before i added the bars leak the coolant would simply dissapear, now it pisses all over the ground from the overflow tank. Is it possible that the EGR port on the intake is leaking gasses into the coolant but not allowing coolant into the exhaust??? Also when the car cools it should draw coolant back into the rad which it doesn't, another sign of the head gasket i would think. All i know is that if that the problem i don't wanna bother buying all these gaskets, then getting it back together only to not have the problem fixed. So maybe I'll just pull the motor and buy a nice longblock since all my crap is stock anyhow????? I love dumping my money into this ***** box!!!! :)

Agreed on the car dealership aspect. I've been doing it for over 11 years now. Did you have a chance to see what your oil looked like? A blown head gasket would be noticable from the amount of smoke from the tailpipes not to mention the foul odor too.
