Roush Question For Saleen Owners.....

The only ones I would touch would be the 67 and earlier cars. The big turn off to Vettes has always been the people in the clubs. In the late 80's I was big into the muscle cars. Mostly Big block mustangs, Boss cars, and 289 Hi-po cars. I've owned Trans Ams, Z-28's, Olds 442's, Cuda's, Roadrunners, etc..Alot of the shows in the southeast were all makes. Everyone would group up at the show based on make but, the Vette people weren't there for the same reason most of us were. For us it was a big social event. It didn't matter what you drove or how original it was. The car wasn't the turn off (unless you have ever chased a vacuum leak in a early 70's cars headlight system!), it was the people.

a New Z06 would not be bad. I love the old cars but as I mentioned in another post I have owned a few (mostly as a kid) but my latest a Big block Chevelle just wasnt fun to drive. One, it always needed something and no matter how small, that is what I would think of while driving it, also it handled like a....Chevelle. Im partial to Fords mustangs, grew up in one but leave the door open to whatever people like as long as they give the same respect back.

Basing a purchase decision on some amateur video posted on the Internet seems to me to be pretty ludicrous.

I was going to debate the merits of the video itself; e.g. it's a street race which is hardly a verifiable method of a vehicle's performance, street racing is illegal, videotaping a street race is immature, we don't know anything about the driving prowess of either vehicle's operator or in what condition is each vehicle, etc.

But that would be rather pointless. :Track:

I was'nt saying to buy the 'vette based just on the video but as a indicater of the performance difference between the 2 ( new Z06's have been reported to run 10's off the showroom floor and cobra's are good for 12 stock so thats a 2 second difference) . Even if the cobra had John Force behind the wheel the cobra still would have its a** handed to it.And since they are both fairly new cars they should both be good running cars.
Everyone knows that street racing is illegal but I personaly dont care.A lot of people do it.Street racing goes on in EVERY major city in the US.If I'm at a light and a car in the other lane wants to go. I wont think twice about it.I've been street racing for 16 years and racing at the track for 10 years. I sometimes go to the racing hot spots with real slicks and skinny's and with 118 octane gas in the tank.(who said street cars only run pump gas?) I cant even count all the times I've outran the police in my 9 second saleen. Its hillarious running from the cops in a car that'll do 0-100mph in 5 seconds and 0-150mph in 10 seconds.:rlaugh: :rlaugh:
The nearest track to me is 2 hours away so its a pain to go there all the time.Different people have been trying to get a track closer but the town council keeps voting it down. I feel its gonna take a council members son to get killed street racing to finnaly see the need for more tracks but untill then street racing will rage on no matter what laws are in place to try to stop it
So if your at a light and a camaro challenges you. So what you do is wimp out and say street racing is not legal and I wil not break the law? It sounds like it time for a Yugo. Why have a high hp car if your not going to use it.

Wow, are you sure your car only run's 9's? You must be going faster, and have a cloaking device installed. Either that or the cops in your area are dumb as a brick. One - you can't outrun the radio. Two - you drive a Saleen mustang. It's not like you're going to blend in. How many are in your area? You must have a lot if the cops are too stupid to know which one is the one "constantly" outrunning them. I agree that sometimes you've just got to run those pesky Camaro's, but I'm throwing the :bs: regarding "can't even count the number of times I've outrun the police in my 9 sec Saleen".

This may sound crazy but I wouldnt mind owning a C4 Vette. Yeah the L98 isnt the greatest motor stock but they do take to mod's just as well as a 5.0.

But hey I'm a child of the 80's and these (my saleen, C4's, 3rd gen F-body camaro's) are the car's that I couldnt afford in HS.

I also like the L98's because they are pretty simple to work on compared to the new stuff. And that is a big deal for me. I wrench on euro trash for a lving and I dont want to come home and wrench on my own stuff if it's going to remind me of my day job.

Would I trade 86 120# for a vette. Probably not but you never know.

Keep in mind the price for the new Z06 somewhere close to 80k right now and in some cases higher. Carr Chevy out here in Portland Or. has what they claim to be the only availible Z06 on the west coast that is not spoken for (at least as of 2 wks ago) and they have it stickered for almost a 100k. BTW, the Z06 and C6 parts for the most part from what they sales man said are not interchangeable as the Z06 is a different body. I would not trade, but I would own one in a heart beat if my wallet was big enough:D
