Ok here is the deal, im doing the headswap within the next few weeks and was wondering which i should do. I only have the money for the cams ($595) or the long tubes and mid pipe ($560). Any info would be great thanks. If any ones if there is a good shop in miami area that i can get a tune?

man thats tough. if it were me, I would save the cash to get both rather than rushing into it. Is the money really burning a hole in your pocket? If you're working then putting aside another 500 shouldnt take you that long, its not like it would be another year before you could do the swap. That being said, cams would take priority over long tubes (in my book) but it would be much better to be do the LTs and the cams at the same time when the heads are out. Final verdict, cams>LTs

idk about that 97, im kinda in disagreement with you, only if he wants to buy the two seperate the reason i figure is, if u get the cams first, your limiting the performance of them due to the restriction of those stock manifolds...i would get the headers first also since these dont require a whole lot of tuning after installation where the cams will

is my theory misguided?

hmm well you're right i guess... the cams would show more gains if you had the LTs on there to start, but the LTs alone give you about 10rwhp i thought?? I also thought that doing stage 1 cams on a stock 4.6 yielded about 25hp at the wheels. I don't know since i've never done it, but out of personal preference I would just save the cash for both! :)

i would save up for both too and get a dyno tune as well...

cams make ~ solid 25rwhp where headers on gain 10rwhp, if he doesnt want to wait, alls im suggesting is that he get the headers first because cams will require a tune...and if you install headers after that tune, well ur gunna have to retune it, why do things twice

All I know is that if your doing a headswap AND cams...a tune is VERY VERY important. DO NOT GET ON IT UNTILL ITS TUNED! If the tune is not calculated into your price, then you may have to forget both of those. If you have the tune $$$ set back...then goahead and get the cams. If your getting a tune BEFORE the cams would go in, then get the LTs as they really dont need a tune. As in you can get a tune, then save up the 500 and install LTs and you wont need ANOTHER tune.

I would save up the cash for both if possible. It is more fun to do the parts in conjunction that way you will feel a bigger kick in the pants when done. I also disagree on the cams taking precedence. Exhaust is very important, none of your performance upgrades down the road will see their full potential without a good set of headers and an exhaust system with minimal restrictions. Cams are not too hard on an OHC engine, get the tougher stuff out of the way, and build a strong foundation to build on with your exhaust and induction.

I have the money for a tune,at first i was going with the cams. I wasn't going to throw the cams on without a tune. I was just trying to get a feel of which would be the best choice to go with. I guess i just wanted to get a tune after the headswap so get the most out of it, and by putting the cams on at the same time i would not have to waste the money on tuning it twice. If you guys think of a better way about doing, just let me know. I do see reason behind put the headers on first also, and trust me i wish i could do both at the same time, but you know how it is i could have a good 50-70 rwhp that i can throw on now, or wait a month or so for a little more.

I'm in the same boat as you. But I picked the LT's and Midpipe. Like previously stated, you need a good starting block. And freeing up the exhaust is a good start. Good Luck!
