Which is nothing to smile about for Ford owners

Sucks for the economy and people losing their jobs of course but as far as Chevy being gone, who cares. Not me. I've always been a Mopar guy and before I owned a Ford I never had issues with Ford or Mopar enthusiasts, but the Chevy guys were always the jerks. At car gatherings they always seem to be the guys yelling crap out their windows.

Even when I owned a 68 Firebird I'd hear, "Should have got a Camaro". So I can have a sly grin about Chevy being in trouble if I want to.

I know a few Chevy guys who are really nice and are very joking about it, but when I took my Mustang to our local show it was the Chevy/stingray guys who would ALWAYS say "How come you didn't get the V8?"

I'll bet the same guys who said that to me would probably tell me I should have gotten a Camaro if it was still around.

I have no issuses with Chevy. GM's problem is that they fired all of their older GOOD car desginers and hired a bunch of kids trying to go for a futuristic concept which really produces horrible looking cars. From my experience most people I know like retro cars or the style of Chrysler/Dodges stuff better than anything GM makes.

I saw a program last night on the new GTO. What is it? A rounder Grand Prix with a better engine. What was the first thing mentioned? How most traditional GTO and pontiac fans won't touch it because it lascks the "soul" of the GTO. And performance wise it's right on target, but it looks like the same ol you see everyday on the road. Nothing special. The need to retro the GTO and maybe reintroduce a retro Camaro and cut 90% of their cars since they are all the same bodys with different badges.

Sorry for the long post. That's just my opinion.

Bye bye bowtie :D

Hate to tell you this, but Ford is in just as bad shape as GM, possibly worse, we just don't know what all the latest bad news @ Ford is right now.

Have you already forgotten that Ford is going to announce it's latest re-structuring, job cuts and plant closings in January. This is after they just announced a few weeks ago that 4,000 more white collar jobs are being eliminated.

Nod, bad news all around. And now we have the Japanese full-size truck competitors.

And it doen't look like Ford's situation will get better anytime soon.

Ford's November sales were down 15% from last year, even Mustang sales were down. With all Ford's new 2006 products ( Fusion, Milan, Zephyr, updated Explorer) and the new for 2005 products Mustang, 500, Montego, one would think that sales would have been better.

Well, judging from the butt-ugly new stuff I've seen on dealers lots lately, it looks to me like someone needs to hire some new talent in styling. That Milan? what the hell was that group smokin? Wait, maybe that's the bunch that used to work for Pontiac and designed the Aztec. The Fusion? Looks like a Caddy too me. The F150 also turns me off, I thought about a new pickup, but it's looks pointed me toward the super duty, but what they've got on the lots around here are priced to the moon. The few affordable ones are basic, white work trucks. Who in hell wants a $50,000 pickup? ****, I'd just as soon buy a used Pete and restore it to drive.:nice:

This is terrible news! I knew this was going to happen the minute I saw Cadillac and Lincoln badges on trucks.:nonono: They both bet the farm on the truck chassis and guess what.... they're not moving 'em for $$ (dumping them cheap)
How many times can you "re-skin" a ****ing Suburban? The SUV is dead. Gas prices killed the market.

As far as their cars they don't have the "reputation" the Asians have. Of course it's all bull****, you can get a lemon just as easy from Toyota as you can from GM or Ford.

Ford has some nice models coming out it's unfortunately a little too late. When people think of well built fuel efficient cars they think Asian.

It isn't the Union, heath care or pensions that's being spun in the news as the problem, it's the management!! No ****ing foresight= lackluster sales.
Quality, efficiency and no more model overlap. :flag: that's what they need to capitalize on. :nice:

You seem to be the exception, both the Fusion & Milan have received positive styling reviews from both the press and customers.

The new F150 has been the best selling Ford pickup ever, so someone must like it.

If what you say is true, why the talk about plant closures? Positive styling reviews from the press? Since when did they buy all the cars? F150 best selling ever? They've been using that line in advertising for thirty years now.:D The dealer's lots are full of them as well, doesn't mean it's the best selling ever. :D

You can go to media.ford.com and get the sales #s.

There is no argument, over the last year the new F150 has had record sales. If the dealer lots have lots of them its simply because Ford is making so many of them.

Ford is NOT closing any F150 plants. What they will be closing is St Louis - Explorer, and Atlanta Taurus along with engine and parts plants.

Please get you facts straight before you post your mis-information.
As far as the Fusion, Milan and Zephyr go, several people I know who have not purchased an American car in years find those cars attractive enough that they may be soon pulled back to buy American again.

The F-Series is the backbone of this company, we sold over 900,000 units last year and are aiming at doing that again this year. During the first month of Family Plan we sold 137K, the highest amount of any vehicle line sold in a month, period. We almost broke 100K again right after. Maybe we do build too many at them, but they bring home the bacon. :flag:

Everything is speculation right now, yes although alot of just makes sense, but don't bank on anything until the final word is announced in January.

And God bless the Fusion, mine gets built in two weeks

Well it's not just the bad designs that the American car companies have been putting out but the quality SUCKS!

My wife wanted a small handy car and wanted a Toyota Matrix. I talked her into looking at some American brands and there was a huge difference. We looked at PT Cruiser, Ford Focus, Chevy Cobalt and they all had a cheap plastic feel inside and out. The Toyota felt solid, like it would put up with kids and use. So we went with the Toyota. Loyalty can only go so far before it passes into the realm of being stupid.

American car makers need to ditch the trend of not getting a quality car until you pay $40,000.
