AOD Question

The internal geartrains are quite similar, but there are
some differences. The ratios are the same.

The cases are different.

The valve bodies & torque converters are way different.

Either can be built to take major power.

The /E is electronically controlled, so to use it in a
car that did not have an electronic trans oem, you'd
need either to convert to a 93/94 Mustang EEC-IV
setup - at least to run the trans - but it's hard to
tune that ecu to run the trans for a perf app.

Most guys would say that the stand alone Baumann
electronic control is better & easier to tune & work with.

/E's still have a lot of the geartrain weaknesses that
the AODs had. The later model 4R70W's have all the
weaknesses fixed.

One advantage of a properly built electronic type
is that you have control of 2nd gear - AOD's valve bodies
& shifters go from 1 to 3 to OD. The /E's & later are 1 to 2 to 3/OD and have electronic OD lockout.

A Baumann shift kit does pretty well with an AOD,
but you still really don't have control of 2nd.
Lentech does make some valve bodies that fix that.

Here's some info on beefing both types:

I would look to a aod trans over a aode. There article online telling you how to build a budget aod and making it quite strong. They tell you what bells to braize and making the two peice input shaft into one.
Lentech is a one of the best company's for aod's but are very expensive. Though they maybe able to educate you more on the on the subject.

The AOD tranny can basically be built to be bulletproof and is a lot easier to work with then the aod-e. You can buy the components you need to build a nice strong tranny a lot less then it would cost for a Lentech.

Modular2V, How much would you take for either one of those aod's and where are you located at. My AOD the overdrive is out of it. But I only paid $70.00 for it so I'm going to just drive it without overdrive.

Thanks
